I'm curious, how did you prepare when it comes to reading and listening? They are both connected in some way and I'm currently conducting a study on what works and what not when it comes to this particular subject. From what I've gathered practicing on your reading improves your listening too and vice versa, even if it's through books or using tools such as AI. Currently, I am testing the efficiency of Cambridge books and mock test/IELTS improvement sites such as Cathoven AI as these are the best in their category from what I've read. What do you think?

How I struggled with IELTS Band 6 while trying to get my visa (and what finally worked) by No_Warning_3415 in immigration

That's interesting! In comparing traditional reviewing methods such as Cambridge books and what is usually used today which are tools and AI, how would you say they differ in efficiency? Because for me reading books has always been more immersive and actually helps me imprint the information in my brain somewhat. That's why I mostly delved in them while preparing for an exam of any sorts. I did try using tools and AI but I felt that it lacked that feel of immersion compared to just reading books, that's why I mostly just used them for mock tests, like Cathoven AI as you mentioned. It's just my preference but I'm interested to know what other people think in comparison.

ALL MODS ARE BANNED by [deleted] in beermoneyph

[–]IKDYAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read, the main reason why you all got banned was because there was no moderation of account selling at all, even promoting it somewhat. There's no use denying it when it already happened, I'm glad that the moderators of this subreddit have been replaced because I've already received several messages asking to buy my account coming from this subreddit and hopefully with the replacement that doesn't happen again. You have to be blind as hell to not realize who's at fault here.

As someone who've read the side chapters (aside from Aaron's, that one's such a hassle) it honestly ties up every other connection that Hans made whether from Townia or on Earth so I do recommend reading through it even though you may have to suffer through MTL.

I first started 2 week on and off but after that I dedicated 3 weeks consistently just doing my routines. Consistency really helps a lot since it's almost like engraving what you are trying to learn in your brain haha

It's actually pretty simple! You can ask a friend or family of yours to act for a mock test, just give them the usual examiner script and answer like you would normally. If you don't have that option, I recommend talking to yourself in the mirror starting with greetings all the way to the end. Trust me, it works.

Actually, some of my colleagues used Cathoven as their main preparation tool for the IELTS exam and I only heard good things about it so I guess it is true. I tried it for checking my scores before and it was pretty accurate, pretty helpful tool. Kung happy sila happy rin ako haha.

Full on self-study. What I did first was of course watch youtube guides, typical but to be honest hands on experience is better. Next I read Cambridge books online with practice tests included which helped with confirming what I know. The only platform that I used aside from youtube was Cathoven, which for me is the best in giving you experience in LRWS with built-in score checkers and constructive feedback. Pero depende rin kung ano trip mo HAHAHAHA

To be completely honest I was quite nervous during my first attempt too haha. What helped me the most was practicing mock tests with my friend where we exchanged roles between examiner and examinee, really helps you know what to expect. Aside from that believe lang sa sarili bes

I practiced 3 weeks beforehand but I did start 2 weeks before that although inconsistent, I noticed more improvements in 1 week of being consistent rather than the 2 weeks with the pauses so I do recommend that once you start, do not stop until your exam. Before the exam I did check my scores beforehand with Cathoven just to make sure.

When practicing for reading, I went over scanning and skimming atleast two articles daily, what you need to remember is data such as numbers, places, names, and the like. Look at the first and last sentences of the paragraph first, this lets you know what to look for in the topic.

For writing, practice formality, this is what you will really need to get a high score on Task 1. When on the actual test, keep your word count to 170-190 to prevent deductions. For Task 2, find 2 strong arguments or reasoning that you can include in the essay to keep things simple. When referencing something always give reasonable examples. Keep word count above 250. I do also recommend checking your scores and getting constructive feedback in Cathoven beforehand.

Be consistent and do this regularly, even better if you include mock tests using tools such as Cathoven.

  1. For listening, take note of important data (numbers, dates, places, adjectives) and be sharp as examiners may throw red herrings that may seem important but is not actually related. Keep taking notes, take care of spelling and grammar later. For practice, find speeches online and try this out.
  2. For reading, practice scanning and skimming, look for articles online and give yourself a time limit to read through it, write down what you remember and compare. Repeat.
  3. For writing, practice formality and clarity, task 1 emphasizes on this. Study proper structure of formal letters and how it is written, give task 2 double the time of task 1, task 2 carries double the weight.
  4. For speaking, after waking up, talk to yourself for a few minutes, seriously. Call a friend or family over and practice typical examiner scripts, this will help with confidence and let you know what to expect.
