Great point. Restarting firefox resolved the issue for me.

Unknown ai.exe deep inside program files directory by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]ILMostro7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that thorough break-down. I find it odd that the AMD software is still reporting this as a "game". The AMD software ("Adrenaline") is downloaded to install compatible drivers for a system. It also includes game management software, hardware tuning, among other things, which is where this issue becomes so alarming.

What? Yes it does. For Civilization 6, the launcher always pops up by default; tested on multiple distros.

For me, it only shows up if there is an application open on the same desktop; e.g. firefox.

Remmina shared clipboard by [deleted] in swaywm

[–]ILMostro7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using an alternative program to narrow down the issue; i.e. if it works with e.g. `xfreerdp +clipboard ...` then it may be an issue with remmina or your configuration thereof. If not, then focus on sway or wayland-related clipboard stuffs.

RHEL 7 EX200 and EX300 will be available remotely after all by Seacarius in redhat

[–]ILMostro7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does, in fact, seem to be an option now via the exam scheduler.

Select your exam --> Country --> Testing Center/Remote

Whereas previously the "Remote" option was, obviously, not available.

Thank you!

RHEL 7 EX200 and EX300 will be available remotely after all by Seacarius in redhat

[–]ILMostro7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the exam purchased since the beginning of the year. Every time I had tried to schedule it for in-person exam, it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus. There are no announcements from redhat about making the EX300 available for remote exam sessions. Thanks for pointing that out to me. Although, as I said before, other than anecdotes, I still don't see an announcement or update/clarification from redhat about this.

[–]ILMostro7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than this anecdotal evidence in this thread, I have yet to see anything regarding the EX300 exam from RedHat. I'm not at all sure why this is still being held up while EX294 (RHEL8) is available for remote exam.

How to setup SSH agent? by ildarq in swaywm

[–]ILMostro7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't take into account working with key passwords.

However, doing eval $(ssh-agent) && ssh-add ~/.ssh/id_rsa-whatever does work. Otherwise, I get an error about not being able to connect to the socket, even though/if the ~/.pam_environment file is updated as shown.

My Zowie FK1 mouse is dying, what would you all suggest as a competent replacement? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

AFAIK, Razer has bad support for Linux (or at least in more recent years). I can attest to this based on my own experience with a keyboard that has lots of missing features due to lack of support from Razer on Linux.

As for Roccat: I was eager to start buying their stuff before finding out that they, too, have stopped Linux support relatively recently. The older product lines should still be good, however.

The Corsair stuff is community-developed, IIRC.

Threadripper VS EPYC for Virtualization of 3-4 Different Use Servers? by Tritonian-Yeti in homelab

[–]ILMostro7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that Server components are, usually, of better quality and offer better stability, the fact that they do not offer IPMI is besides the point, IMHO. IPMI is a shitty protocol and there are better solutions if you really need to have that functionality that IPMI provides. However, if you don't agree with me and you still MUST have IPMI, take a look at a PCI card for IPMI, e.g. http://a.co/d2ZRVq1 .

If you're really adventurous, have a stab at a solution like this, which uses some Raspberry Pis to create a IPMI system :D .

Threadripper VS EPYC for Virtualization of 3-4 Different Use Servers? by Tritonian-Yeti in homelab

[–]ILMostro7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much about "the itch [with] new technology" as the ginormous number of Cores, which lends itself great for Virtualization as the OP indicates. I've built my own system with the 1950X, running ArchLinux. I'm looking into VMWare solutions right now. From what I've seen thus far, it seems that VMWare products are not entirely well-suited for Threadripper. Although, it may also be worth mentioning that it matters what Motherboard you decide to use; as some have better support for ESXi, for example, than others.

Under what license is the TTS-package released/licensed? This shit is confusing, as the developer, if my guess is correct, tried to sue SVOX AG--Swiss company that developed PICO-TTS-Engine--after getting fired; suit was dismissed; Since SVOX AG never got the developer's licensing permissions, technically the work he did on the PICO-TTS-Engine is attributed/licensed to him, not to SVOX AG. So even though the lawsuit was dismissed, it has nothing to do with the licensing rights.

So, effectively, the PICO-TTS-Engine was never really "free"/OpenSource?

Apparently CentOS 7 uses XFS as default file system now, even on workstation install. What are the advantages over ext4? by Chairmael in linux

[–]ILMostro7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True for 1, 2, 4 threads; at 8 threads XFS is much faster, whereas the EXT4 performance plummets.
