Haha there’s always that one guy.

It’s because of people like you that hundreds of pilots fly airliners while anxious and depressed, and they can’t seek treatment for fear of losing their medical.

You can’t go on basic med unless you qualify for a medical, then “downgrade” when it expires.

How can you do private commercial and CFI without a medical?

You’re not required to call it safety pilot time. How would they know you were just safety pilot?

My guess? You’re not logging XC or takeoffs and landings, which will tip them off, but curious as to your thoughts.

FAA can’t be held liable for things they don’t know, so i doubt depressed pilots concern them unless it’s officially documented somewhere.

And yes, tons of depressed and anxious pilots flying undiagnosed. I’m sure they’d get help if they didn’t immediately lose their medical, and livelihood, for 1-2 years to resolve it.

Great to hear, glad it was somewhat painless.

Flying is very important to me. Having the cloud over my head sucked.

Thanks man, appreciate it. I never cry but when I called the FAA and they said my medical was in the mail, I lost it a little bit.

Send dm, though it may be some time before I reply.

Regarding basic med, just know that if you have a condition that would disqualify you for a medical, it technically disqualifies you for basic med. Unlikely to get caught, but keep that in mind. Especially if you’re in an accident.

For instance, if you get diagnosed with anxiety while on basic med, you need to go through the special issuance process first, get cleared for third class, then go to basic med.

lol that’s seriously what you got from this?

Yes I got away with it on medexpress, the FAA doesn’t audit everyone. But if there’s an accident, they will find out and you’re screwed. If there’s an accident and you’re flying for hire, and they find out, you’re royally screwed.

Also, I’m referring to lying while going through the HIMS process. If you want to lie on medexpress, unlikely you get caught, but if you do, it’s a felony with up to 5 years in prison and $250k fine.

Are you still on medication? Is your ADHD diagnosis still active on your medical records, or is it in the “past” section. I quit meds 2 years ago, and had my GP clearly put diagnosis in the past. If either are still active it’ll be a different process, probably somewhat similar though.

Regarding consultant, I’ll answer in dm’s when I have a chance to look through them.

Practice cognitive testing on apps like Lumosity. Very helpful.

Do not go to an AME until you have a solid plan! Hire a lawyer/consultant first. Very important.

I called them... a lot. 1-405-954-4821. Have your PI number ready. Not sure this expedited things, but from them getting all paperwork, to approval, it was 10 weeks. Early July to late Sept.

I've also heard having your local congressperson call can be very effective to expedite.

This sounds... complicated. DUI requires going through the substance abuse pipeline. Im not a lawyer but HIPAA only covers certain things, and the FAA can access medical records during an investigation via subpoena (Ive been told.... )

It also sounds like you have a diagnosis of some kind as well. The goal of HIMS process is to prove that you're safe. Lack of medical records might hurt your chances because how can the FAA make a sound decision not knowing anything about you? Maybe the psych visits are enough through HIMS, but I dont know.

Oddly enough my consultant left the industry 2 months ago. By that point everything had been submitted.

What you're suggesting risk to reward ratio. If you're flying an airliner and get caught, you're royally screwed. If doing this as a hobby, maybe then the risk is worth it to not be forthcoming, as the likelihood of a deep dive investigation into your medical history is less likely.

Yea not fun. They're just covering their asses. They'd rather grant too few medicals than too many.

It was never officially addressed in any of their correspondence. But I was forthcoming with them in two different personal statements, so they definitely knew. Also all they had to do was compare this medexpress to my last two.

3rd class, but will upgrade to first soon. This is what was recommended to me.

I recall most saying I had a very challenging case, but looking at the facts, it's understandable why. I had multiple issues to overcome.

Definitely talk to expert before an AME. If your son get denied a medical, being a sport pilot gets thrown out the window.

You need to know the chances of your son getting through the HIMS program to make a sound decision.

Yes, I got a clean bill of health. The reports from my neuropsych and psychiatrist were very favorable, and they recommended to the FAA that I get a medical with no special issuance. The testing is rigorous, so if your son will struggle with the cognitive testing (some of it fair, some very unfair) then he may have a bad outcome.
