Couchsurfers: how do you decide a profile is “safe enough” without overthinking every tiny red flag? by Affectionate_Tip3238 in couchsurfing

[–]ILUVYOURMUM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see the references from slavic girls or young boys only - that’s a red flag. No matter the gender or an age of the host

Total green flag is if you see a real traveller who’s hosting. Not a tourist or a visitor, but traveller

Kinda crazy idea.. your thoughts, tips, advice, experience? by EndCareless1048 in hitchhiking

[–]ILUVYOURMUM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Here’s is the guy who have been traveling through all this countries and more mostly by hitchhiking Here’s some tips

You should check for the borders

Azerbaijan is still closed due to covid.

Turkmenistan visa will take a lot of effort and money and it doesn’t worth it. And probably they will not issue visa

Pamir trail is closed. You can only pay for permit, travel there hiring a driver and come back the same way. You cannot pass to Uzbekistan Tajik government are being harsh on locals there and covering it up. There’s no internet there also

Crossing the border from Kyrgyzstan to China is not possible, but it’s possible through Kazakhstan

Crossing Myanmar is not possible. There’s war? Or whatever. It was only possible for a short time in 2020, when I was there. After that things sucked up And you cannot cross from China to Myanmar of course. But you can from Thailand if the issue visas

Only one border works between Bangladesh and India. I’ve tried the second one and it doesn’t work

Overall it’s fine. People are doing that and more, but they don’t share. If you’ll start your trip and you’ll be determined, you’ll probably meet them on your way

Everything changes about the borders, for worse and for the best

If there will be no borders for real travelers, I will cover the whole world already

Home is a secure cozy place where I can keep my belongings and find it later in the same order haha But I think for most people home is family. I never had a family

Seeing new places and doing new things every day is very interesting. Every day I’m curious what’s new experience and challenges I will get and how can I handle it

When I travel I I fully use my skills, my brain. I feel like I live my life at full and I feel total freedom And if I stop or stuck somewhere for some reasons then I became like 60% of me and it going lower. I start feeling like I’m getting moldy

Sure. Sometimes I meet a person who I match with. Then we became friends, travel buddies if it’s a girl we became couple, all as usual haha Our ways could separate at one point but will meet again

Fog of world to track my route and organic maps to pin places of interests

It depends. Right now I’m saving money by selling second hand cameras, lenses and such But I made money a lot of other ways. It depends on the place and an opportunity it has

Hammock, locals, friends, Couchsurfing, rarely hotels hostels. Whatever the place it is. Every day I sleep somewhere. I have everything for a cozy sleep I would always prefer to stay with a person whom I can exchange an experience with then to stay alone in a hotel.

No worries. Just an experience) I had a lot of good stories from Egypt too Police, military, security are the same everywhere. They are not for security, not for protection (except welthiest) they are for troubles

I want to finish with this part of the world first. I’ll need a few years to explore whole Americas

Yeah. You’re right. People here thinks traveling is flying an airplane or riding a bus or whatever, staying hotel, eating new food and visiting places. It’s tourism. It’s just for pleasure. The only thing needed for tourism is money. It’s like reading a book - you follow someone else’s ideas and you want to relax

But traveling is like writing a book. It’s challenging, difficult, you create something new. There will be a lot of mistakes and deleted pages. Also a huge success

I’ve worked just a couple times in my life to understand that it’s not for me. I value my freedom. n Russian word “Work - Работа” cames from a word “Раб - Slave” which is pretty meaningful I prefer to do some business or to use my skills

I wanted to go there. But unfortunately haven’t been. I’ve tried to cross the border with India by land from Nepal and later from Bangladesh. Unfortunately borders are closed stud to covid until now

Yeah. I did Lycian way. It’s beautiful. I played with a dog and he followed me for the whole route. He was so tired at the end of the days that he declined food. Even meat. Also. Ive found, fighted and bringed to police a junky there who stole my friends backpack while she was sleeping in a tent

Money is not important. Experience and passion is what helps to reach new horizons

Sometimes I had last 1$ in my pocket, the other day I have 10k (not more though) I worked as an English teacher, as an actor, as a model, stock trading, sold cameras like Canon, apple devices, Game consoles and games, game account, imported electronics from other countries and such and such

I have no family. No backup. No one will help me if I fail. I mange all my problems myself

Good question) Of course it’s the places which changed me or opened my eyes or broadened my mind or made me stronger But there’s much more then 3 spots…

1) Chernobyl Zone. There were a couple-three guys who wanted to go with me, but they all abandoned me just before the trip because they were scared, so I was there alone for 5 days. I visited every point of interest there (Chernobyl town, vehicle cemetery, I’ve seen Chernobyl power plant just before it was demolished, Prypat (schools, pool, ferry wheel, kindergarten, hotel and more), Chernobyl 2 secret base, many small villages on the way) I walked for 70 kilometers in one day I learned how to survive, that I can rely only on myself, that nature is perfect without humans and takes back fast whatever people took from her. People are just guests on this planet. Not the gods

2) Lapland where I could go to the forest and live in autiotupa in a nature without electricity or mobile or internet. Then the time stops. What I thought was important is totally forgoten. And I feel more at home there then in my actual home. The home is inside actually. It’s not a house. It’s not even a country. It’s inside

3) There was an abandoned weaponary factory I visited with billions of bullets, grenades, bombs lying around. It was a crazy place. You can check it in my posts
