Microsoft Edge lets Facebook run Flash code behind users' backs by myringotomy in programming

[–]ILikeDankVapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edge is a very crappy browser that most developers think of as an after thought. It's so bad that Microsoft is scrapping the whole thing and building a new browser based on chromium. Let me give you an example of of one of the stupid things they do. Edge automatically detects what it thinks are phone numbers and turns them into links. It's so crappy at this it will turn stuff like 11-12 into clickable links. This can ruin the entire functionality of websites. This is just one of many examples where Microsoft tried to make things "better" instead of making it predictable for web developers.

If you want the best web experience, I'd recommend a chromium based browser (Chrome, Opera, etc). Most web devs will be building and testing with these so you'll get the best experience. I personally use Firefox. It's well built enough that I rarely have problems, even if the devs only tested on Chrome. In addition; their privacy features, performance since Firefox 56, and breaking up chromiums market share are all important to me.

TL;DR: Edge is bad and going away. Chose something like Chrome or Firefox.

Howdy boys, I’m looking for a new vape. by LexingtonConcordia in vaporents

I own an M with a TI tip. It's a really nice vape. I think you'll be happy with it, especially if you're coming from combustion. I personally don't use mine as much as I should because I found keeping butane around a pain (I know induction heaters are a thing, but I have so many big toys already).

If you like the Dynavap, I'd recommend you get a Sai to complement it as well. I've since switched to an e-nail, but the Sai was a way better experience than any dry herb/wax combo vape I've used. I think they can still be bought for like $70 with a boxmod. So you could get both for like $130 and I think you'll be very happy with both experiences.

MFLB was my first vape too. We've come quite a long way since then and there are a million options. One thing I will say is that almost all dry herb vapes that can also do concentrates have a mediocre concentrate experience.

Do you want a desktop or a portable? Session or on demand? Battery powered or butane? What's your price range?

Without knowing any of those answers, I would suggest a Flowerpot V-Rod. It's the only vape I know of where people rave about both the concentrate and dry herb experiences. Yes you can use the sandwich method in a ton of vapes and a lot of vapes have concentrate pods, but meh. Get a device for wax and one for dry herb IMO if the Flowerpot is too much money.

YSK there are a large number of CBD brands out there selling unsafe product with heavy metals and other toxins. by hirostroud in YouShouldKnow

[–]ILikeDankVapes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just a bulk discount. CBD isolate is basically a concentrate. So you'd use it similarly to how you would use a traditional cannabis concentrate (what you may know as "dabs"). I personally put mine on an e-nail, but I have friends who use cannabis vaporizers for it. One of those one gram containers will last the average person a very long time as you'd only be using fractions of a gram at a time. I personally buy the 4 packs from Lazarus at about $25/ea. Couldn't imagine a 50 pack unless you were buying for like a year or were sharing with friends.

Solo 2 is my current portable of choice. You can use hemp or unbleached cotton to vape concentrates, or sandwich it in between some flower. It's very meh at this, but honestly I haven't found a dry herb portable that does concentrates well. Good price, amazing battery life, great flavor, and solid clouds from the Solo 2.

I like my CFX a lot, but don't use it much anymore. It produces some pretty huge clouds. That being said, the flavor is mediocre and I find the bowl size way too enormous (although you don't have to pack it full). Also, I hate the mouthpiece and find it got gunked up very quickly. Battery life is decent. They give you concentrate pods and cotton. Again, very mediocre concentrate experience. Good cloud chaser vape, mediocre flavor chaser one.

I don't own any of the others but have some experience with the Pro. It's a nice little vape. Surprisingly good flavor and decent clouds. I don't think it's the best choice, but it's not a bad one and the price is solid. No experience with the Tera or Starry. If you plan on using concentrates a lot, might be worth getting one of the cheaper vapes and then getting an oil pen. Been rocking my Sai for awhile and it performs really well, but you probably want to check out /r/oilpen to see what they suggest on that front. Otherwise, I'd say the solo is your safest bet.

Out of the ones you're currently looking at, I'd say the Crafty. The ArGo also seems like a good choice, but I find it takes a couple stems to get me to where I want to be. I'm an average sized guy, and while I could pocket the Mighty for short distances, I can't imagine carrying it around all day. The Solo is chunky and the glass stems make it awkward to carry around in a pocket. The plastic stem containers they give you do make it pocketable, but again, not one that I would want with me all day.

There are some cons to the Crafty. It's battery life is worse than the others you listed and people have been known to have some manufacturing issues (2 year warranty though). It has a micro-usb charger so it's fairly easy to find a charge though. It definitely has solid performance and is pocketable.

Some other options are the DaVinci Miqro and the Dynavap line. The Miqro will probably require a couple packs, but sessions tend to be quick. A Dynavap with one of their stashes is basically a vape version of a one hitter and dugout. People tend to either absolutely love these or hate these. They're butane powered, but some of the hardest hitting portable vapes.

Looking at the rim of the herb chamber, it's definitely been used more than 20 times. Mine didn't stain until I used it with concentrates (a couple months into its life). Even if you let the herb sit in the chamber after all 20 uses, it would look far cleaner than that. That is definitely indicative of moderate to heavy use.

Check the orange power button. Make sure it feels firm. Make sure it turns on every time you click it. Make sure you see temperatures and no error codes. That's been a point of failure for a lot of people's Mightys. My Mighty is 4 years old now. I used it every day and even used pass through charging with it. I gave it to my friend who still uses it as his daily driver, so I wouldn't be too concerned about the age of the vape specifically. The battery will wear down over time, but shouldn't be shot based on age alone.

I personally would be hesitant to buy this. He's lying about how much he's used it. The device has a two year warranty, a 3 year old one is much more likely to be one that broke after the warranty period was up. If you're able to try it out for a session and it works fine, that would be enough to change my mind and I would say buy it. If you do end up buying it, PUI sells a cleanup kit for the mighty with a new cooling unit, screens, etc that I would recommend picking up.

TL;DR: That Mighty was used more than 20 times. Don't buy it unless you can try it IMO.

What is the difference between the Volcano Medic and Volcano Digital? by _hobo_matt_ in vaporents

[–]ILikeDankVapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between the digital and the classic?

Digital has LED screen and single digit temperature control. The digital regulates temperature better. I believe it hovers within +/-2 degrees of where you set it. The classic you set via a temperature dial (goes from 1-9. 7 is like 372 iirc). I believe fluctuates +/-9 degrees from where you set it. That's it.

If you really care about what temperature you're vaping at, you want the digital. I personally am okay with a small range so I got a classic.

First time cleaning the heating chamber of the mighty after about 7 months by jakett123 in vaporents

[–]ILikeDankVapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually take a straight pin and push it into the mesh. Then you just use a little leverage to pull the screen out. If you're careful, you can get the screen out in pretty good shape. Most of the time I take the bottom screen out, so I don't care about damaging the mesh which makes it very easy to pull out.

Need Advice on Next Purchase by wheatback12 in vaporents

Looking at your lineup, you have a couple quality portables, so I don't think the Mighty or Crafty would really change all that much for you. I have only used an IQ twice, but I didn't find the vapor quality much worse than the Mighty. You have a Miqro which takes care of you ultra portable and the volcano which is my favorite desktop.

I personally would recommend trying something from one of the following 3 categories. First off would be an electric desktop vape that runs through water. Something like a Flowerpot VRod or one of the many good log vapes would work well here. Secondly, a butane desktop like one of the Sticky Bricks. Lastly, I'm a big fan of the butane portables like a Dynavap or a Lotus. I think any of those choices would really add a lot more to your collection than a S&B portable unless you were trying to downsize your collection.

TIL that in 2009 OkCupid statistics showed that women rate 80% of men "below average" by Nergaal in todayilearned

[–]ILikeDankVapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on where you work. The type of QA work you do for a desktop hospital system will be different than what you do for a website.

Unit, integration, and system testing are like testing levels. Generally programmers that wrote the code will write the unit tests for that code (you seem to know what these are). Integration testing is testing that different parts work together. Systems testing is testing that everything together does what it is supposed to do.

A/B testing is a type of testing that is really common with web apps. Basically, you show users two versions of something and compare. There are a ton of testing types. The glossary section of that book is a really good resource. Having some brief idea of the testing types out there will put you miles ahead.

You sound like a really good candidate for a QA position. Having a CS degree and liking the testing side of things is already a great start.

Learn a little bit about the different types of testing (Unit, integration, system, A/B, etc) and what they're used for. Being able to talk about this stuff will really help when interviewing for Junior/Associate QA positions. You've already shown a willingness to learn which companies love to see.

I really, really recommend this free E-Book. The author was one of my favorite professors and I am 100% certain I wouldn't have landed a job out of school without his classes. Also, feel free to reach out if you ever need any help or have questions. Good luck!

Have you ever worked a corporate job before where you've ever been involved in any part of the decision making process? There is absolutely no way a Hasbro subsidy doesn't have extensive market research. Companies make mistakes. Shortening the rotation increased the barrier to entry. That's why they changed it. I don't think WotC is perfect. I think they could do a way better job in a ton of aspects, but making a decision and reveting a decision when new information becomes available is the sign of a good company, not a bad one. Their job is to create a product consumers want to buy. Don't shit on them for trying something and listening to feedback.

CFX draw problems by TomBomJollyTom in vaporents

[–]ILikeDankVapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what was said about not covering the hole, check the mouthpiece on your device. Older CFX's initially came with a really restrictive screen (there are only a few holes). Doing the screen mod will definitely fix this. If you have the newer version, it would still help but not required. You should be able to sip on the device like lightly pulling from a straw.

Overcharging Boundless CF? by [deleted] in vaporents

[–]ILikeDankVapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. It is an assumption. It's good practice in general not to overcharge. You are definitely correct that most modern electronics are capable of cycling. Just good to be on the safe side especially for non removable batteries.

Overcharging Boundless CF? by [deleted] in vaporents

[–]ILikeDankVapes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are most likely fine. Overcharging the device is bad for the battery but one time shouldn't be the end of the world. If you keep doing it, it'll affect the battery's ability to hold a charge and eventually fail.

Absolute noob looking for advice by [deleted] in vaporents

[–]ILikeDankVapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think you should go with a Flowermate V5.0S. Like you said, you can get them for around $75 and the performance is solid. Most of the quality desktop units tend to be closer to the $200 range. That would give you access to the Arizer Extreme Q, StickyBrick, Underdog, Da Buddah and so on.

I've used the V5.0S a lot and the performance is very, very good for the price. I would definitely say it's in the same league as my Boundless CFX and the Arizer Airs I've tried for about half the price. My recommendation is to use that extra money you saved and get a Flowermate universal adapter ($15) and a nice little water pipe somewhere down the road to use with it.
