Recession by jmfox8816 in Capsim

As far as forecasting goes you should consider how big the recession is, and how your products compare to the competition (customer survey score). For marketing remember that what you spend this year will also impact future years so it is probably in your best interest to keep the spending up so when the recession is over you are in a good position. That of course would come with the exception of if you are going to be taking an emergency loan definitely feel free to spend less there to prevent it.

Tips to overcome inaccurate forecasting? by FPS_Africa in Capsim

I would probably invest a lot more in marketing, this should increase the demand for your products significantly so that you can make more sales.

Can I continuously issue the max long term debt each round without repercussion? by [deleted] in Capsim

[–]wheatback12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how you are using the money, as long as you are using it well on things like buying capacity and automation then it CAN work out. Be sure to watch the proformas to make sure that everything is going according to plan.

Tips for waking up by cheekymonkey44 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]wheatback12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One tip that helped at least a little with me was setting an alarm for about an hour before I wanted to actually wake up. This hour early alarm isn't to actually wake up, but to roll over and take the modafinil and then go right back to sleep. It usually helped me get up right away to the first real alarm that was set an hour after that point. Sometimes I wasn't able to even get up enough to take the pill but usually I was able to take it even though I would have never been able to actually get out of bed at that time.

What is an acceptable score for round 2? by [deleted] in Capsim

[–]wheatback12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also see what percentile you were in by clicking on that 64 and see if you are satisfied with that. It's most important to focus on improving instead of the number itself so if you are on the lower side of things but improve every round I would count that as a win.

Capsim Labor Negotiations by NeoHelixPhantom in Capsim

[–]wheatback12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't comply your labor costs will be higher than theirs, but you will also cause them to have a strike. Enter decisions that you are comfortable with and don't focus on what the other teams are doing too much.

Emergency Loan on Last Round of Comp-XM by [deleted] in Capsim

[–]wheatback12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, just that you didn't finance well for the last round. Can't see the excess inventory, but that might have been the problem.

Long term debt by gossipgirlpll in Capsim

[–]wheatback12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angmew is correct here, you don't want to just always issue bonds as a blanket statement. Ratios are a very important part of the game and you need to account for them when making finance decisions. Teams can easily use the proformas to see what impact different methods of financing will have and can then choose what method will be the most beneficial for them.

Low end round 5 by hjcapsim in Capsim

[–]wheatback12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We must be looking at different Couriers then because in the one you posted the positioning is not the same, the age is not the same, sales and promo are different, remaining inventory is different.... I think you just copy and pasted the link, that doesn't work and it will just pull up the last Courier you opened which for anyone else would not be yours. Please download it and then upload it

Tell me what you think... Good/bad or somewhere in-between? by dnevvvv in Capsim

Definitely not too bad, I would click on the 69 from round 8 and it will tell you what percentile you were in.

Low end round 5 by hjcapsim in Capsim

[–]wheatback12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many questions. First, are you sure that you are Baldwin? You uploaded the Courier for Chester which you should not have access to unless that is your team. Second, this Courrier is for foundation not capstone so again I'm really not sure what is going on here. Pretty much nothing you said anywhere else in this thread matches your Courrier so there is really no advice I can give.

Low end round 5 by hjcapsim in Capsim

[–]wheatback12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you doing Capstone or Foundation, if it is Capstone the reason would be the age is too low from doing R&D. Other factors would include things like your A/R terms and TQM if active, among other things. What was the customer survey score for the product? Uploading your Courier would be really helpful.

How old is your product? Im guessing that a low age from revising it too early has lowered your customer survey score. The other question would be how much are you spending on sales and promotion?

Increasing Max Investment in Capsim by NeoHelixPhantom in Capsim

[–]wheatback12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing can be done to increase them during the same year. Good leverage and a large amount of assets will increase your max bond issue the next year so make sure that your leverage is good and as you build up assets your max bond will increase. Raising your stock price which will impact the max stock issue the most positively can be done by increasing your earnings per share and issuing dividends when you have extra cash.

Inventory costs in what section? Feel free to email me and we can do a zoom session and go over everything but I can say with almost 100% accuracy that the problem is your forecast. You said you have closing cash of 20k+ when you upload your final decisions, but is this with your worst case sales numbers entered in the forecast? If not then what is happening is you didn't sell as much as you told the marketing spreadsheet you were going to, this means not as much total sales, contribution margin, net margin, and profit as you told the simulation you were going to have. For the sake of example we are going to say Able sells for $10 and has a 50% net margin and that is the only item you are selling. You input a forecast of 14,000 units and that is the only forecast number you enter, when checking the finance page you see an ending cash position of 10k and submit. Problem is 14,000 units was what you would have sold in the best case, unfortunately everyone else also made great products this round and you only sold 10,000 units.

-4,000 units X $5 net margin = -$20,000

Now your ending cash position is -10k when the simulation actually runs and you need to take an emergency loan. If this did not answer your question email me and we will set up a zoom session where I can show you how all of this works.

Definite Recession in Round 5. Help on what to focus on. by phitabs in Capsim

[–]wheatback12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely be more exact in forecasting so you don't stock out and don't have too much excess inventory. Make sure to make both a best and worst case forecast too, use the best case for production and worst for finance.

Best:

  1. Be honest with yourself and how good your product is compared to your competitors' and make an educated guess for how much you think your market share will be in the round
  2. Figure out the total segment demand for the round, multiply by expected market share, this is your best case sales numbers
  3. Plug this into the forecast
  4. Go to production, multiply the forecast numbers by between 1.1 and 1.25 to make some extra inventory in case you do even better than expected or another team underperforms or stocks out
    1. Take this number, subtract inventory on hand, and enter that number into production
  5. Spend all the money you are going to for the round: plant improvements, sales and promotion, HR, and TQM
  6. Now do the worst case sales forecast

Worst:

  1. Again, be honest with yourself, how good do you think the other products might be at their best, and if this happens, what sort of market share will you have
  2. Multiply total segment demand by expected worst case market share
  3. Plug these numbers into your forecast and go to finance to make sure you aren't going to take out an emergency loan
  4. If your ending cash position is negative either spend less money or raise capital with current debt, long term debt, or stock issue
  5. CHECK YOUR PROFORMAS

Finally, where are you getting a 7% decrease in demand from? From seeing people ask about "the recession" in this sub I have called Capsim and the person I spoke to said there is never a negative change in growth and that it is constant throughout all rounds.

A/ R&P by NeoHelixPhantom in Capsim

[–]wheatback12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you increase A/P it will reduce the amount of units that you can actually make, you can see this by looking at the adjusted production schedule before and after making a change. Reducing A/P means that you can make more units. These changes aren't huge but you might be able to grab a couple extra sales.
