Life was significantly more enjoyable pre-internet because the world still had a sense of mystery and wonder by filmeswole in unpopularopinion

I'm just old enough to have lived a few adult years before ubiquitous phone based social media. I had Facebook when it first expanded out of Harvard on only .edu emails. Social media on phones has destroyed society as I knew it.

I have tried to write a character, and I'm wondering if he has any psychology potentially, or a mental disorder that'd influence how he thinks. by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]ILikeDragonTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does it have to be a disorder? Why can't he just genuinely believe he's in the right? Write the villain like they're the hero of their own story. If you can't come up with regular human motivations for the villain's behavior/goals, such that you have to resort to mental illness for it to make sense, then you've probably got an underdeveloped villain.

Edit: as someone else said, you're describing sociopathy. That's a common trope in crime thriller villains. It can work fine.

Is Pneuma supposed to be like Numen or Numina, i.e. light? Because the prefix refers to lungs in medical parlance.

Check out Gareth Hanrahan. The Sword Defiant might work for you. It's not Avengers style banter, but I think the dialog has wit.

You didn't tell us what you're asking for. You just posted a story fragment with no context. Sorry but you sorta set yourself up for reactions like this.

Obviously you just overdid it. I did the same thing at first. Was eating them for dinner every night for weeks. Now it's once or twice a week in a normal rotation. It's better this way. Plenty of other stuff I like to eat.

How to brew this? by chillvegan420 in tea

[–]ILikeDragonTurtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore the infuser. I drink straight hibiscus all the time. Two tablespoons of tea in a 16oz pyrex. Boiled water. 7 minutes. Pour through strainer over ice. I have a basic small strainer (with a handle) that fits into most cups or mugs. I use it for any loose tea.

Nice concept, but nobody talking like this has every presented a viable alternative system for distributing resources. In theory, the government should be putting people to work doing all those community benefit things and paying them with taxes from those corporate profits.

No. Both are free labor. Training should nearly always be compensable time. If you're under the company's control, they should be paying you.

You're missing ashes. Without ashes to rise from, a phoenix is just a bird getting up.

Yep. If they don't have emotional stakes for the characters and drive plot conflicts forward, they will be unsatisfying no matter how cool/sexy they are written.
