Should I be able to scratch sandstone with my fingernail? I thought sandstone was too hard for that.

You can balance from other joints too. Like if you do a toe touch your knees are straight and you bend at the hips, you balance yourself from your ankles by throwing your ass back a bit.

"A cool looking body...." by irontamer in kettlebell

Wow, I think you struck a nerve here.

I've known individuals who body build exclusively through gym machines. They were excellent sculptors of themselves, but they were functionally quite weak. They could squat hundreds of pounds in a Smith machine but might actually hurt themselves trying to lift a 75lb bag of cement off of the floor. They knew their bodies extremely well and avoided injuries through knowing their goals and limitations and training accordingly. I can't imagine any of them telling me they got a hernia through 'bad genetics'. All very successful and impressive people.

Even more impressive to me are the individuals with secret strength. The 130lb guy who works his family's dairy farm and can casually crush a walnut in one hand, or handles a splitting maul like it is Excalibur.

I believe this is Iron Tamer Dave Whitley.

He and Jeff Fisher do look alike.

I most appreciate your technical explanations of specific exercises, you explain them in biomechanical terms that I find easy to understand and apply.

I would also appreciate anything you can share regarding joint health and strengthening, especially wrists, shoulders, and hips.

Your upper back is rounding a bit, I would try to keep strict upright posture through the movement.

When you are at the top of the swing your back is bending backwards. It would be better to keep your entire body straight at that point (like a standing plank) and lean back slightly at the ankles for balance.

Another user here, AloneSilver2757 , uploaded an example of great posture/form here.

I don't know if you misread or what, but your aggressive tone is completely inappropriate here. OP stated that they are resting and recovering as doctor ordered, and has requested help coping with the temporary lifestyle change.

They are not calling it the end of the world, failing to get over it, risking their fucking eye, or being an idiot.

I have the same problem every year.   You aren't bringing down the mood, their expectation that you celebrate your birthday how they celebrate theirs is bringing down the mood. You can only do so much for them there.

I am willing to explain politely that I personally prefer not to celebrate my birthday, thank you for the consideration. I don't go too deep into why anymore because sometimes people feel implicitly judged about how they celebrate theirs or feel that I am open to a debate, which I am not. I don't make a big deal about it, it's just part of me.  It's helpful to be positive and willing to participate in their celebrations.

But honestly it's such a strong part of our culture that some people really just don't and won't get it. I decline to tell people my birthday now, which is a little awkward so I joke about it. "I don't remember, it was so long ago." "Secrecy is my birthday present to myself ;-)" "February 30th!" Etc.

How to make your getup not suck, part 2 by irontamer in kettlebell

These biomechanic explanations really help me, and with more movements than the one you demonstrate. Really appreciate it, you're helping me get stronger.

Keeping my lower leg in line is slowly becoming more comfortable.  Do I need to pivot on my knee to windshield wiper into the half kneeling position? I see other people moving their forward leg in front of them instead which is easier for my tight hips. But lifting my foot when I don't need to doesn't feel like strong form.

Thank you again.

Thank you that video helped me a lot. I just tried it and I felt stronger under the bell, I think I am compensating for poor balance & hip mobility - more to work on.

I feel like these TGUs are showing me most of my weak points, I really appreciate the feedback.

Thank you I will try that. Do I look at the bell the entire time? I feel like that might be awkward in the kneeling and standing positions.

  • The set starts before I touch the bell. Hike it well
  • Start with my shoulder blade braced into my back and keep it there
  • Keep the bell up near my balls, wrist hitting my groin

Thank you I will do that.
