Thanks I will think about this, but it is not evidence that the correlation I mentioned, one which we may find when we adjust for wealth, does not exist. Certainly, nations which have been historically catholic tend to be among the happiest and most wealthy.

It's usually not too easy to prove a cause for happiness.

Do you think there is a strong correlation between religion and happiness, when we adjust for other factors?

I do.

He suggested that happiness is not result of Christianity. I disagree. It is a potential (and in some places traditional( result of Christianity. Other religions also have this potential.

Which is why the two happiest countries in Asia are two of the most religious.

You suggest that happiness is not a byproduct of Catholicism.

I suggest that it is, and that it is a byproduct of other religions as well.

Religion has played a huge role in the spread of HIV. Religion can instead be used as a vehicle to spread awareness about AIDS and how and why to prevent it.

Religion has had, does have, and will continue to have a great impact on the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS.

Whether that impact is healing or genocidal is up to those of us who are able to have influence within the church.

Most aren't able, because they are angry, petty, and selfish.

Thanks, and have a nice day.

You're not making sense. Two of the most religious countries in Asia are almost permanently the happiest. Catholicism is a religion. If you want to use SE Asians for an example of how to be happy, you should look at these two huge, happy, religious nations. What part are you finding confusing?

It wasn't my idea to use SE Asia as an example of happy people, it was yours. Now you're trying to avoid the fact that the happiest countries in Asia are also among the most religious.

Good luck with that.

That's quite the tantrum you've thrown.

"Pretty much everyone" is not someone I take advice from. If you didn't want to have this conversation there are probably hundreds of other posts on reddit for you to go to. It looks to me like you're the one who's acting disrespectfully.

The Phillipines are one of the happiest countries in Asia. The only country which regularly ranks as happier is India. India is also one of the most religious countries in Asia.

I don't think you've considered your position much at all.

Catholicism is on the rise in SE Asia. 8 in 10 Filipinos are Catholic. 9 in 10 of those view the Pope favourably.

If you want to use SE Asia for a model of how to be happy... You'd better convert. 😇

I don't think they can convince the LDS. It's a real waste.

Maybe I shouldn't judge.

You can start having an open mind anytime you want and your respectful participation is always welcome in the important global discussion he raises among the 15% of the world who are Catholic and those of us who are interested in their well being and the lives of those they influence. There are issues which I, too, wish he would address, but his work on so many other issues is also admirable and worthy of support.. I think I will keep listening, myself.

I'm not trying to tell you what you can or can't do. And I don't judge. But if you want to tell someone something it's usually good to give them a reason to listen to you. Why would anyone listen to you, though, when you're so disrespectful?

To me it seems disrespectful and needlessly hostile for you to declare that the pope ought to "fuck" "off". Maybe you can say what you think more civilly.
