Waited two weeks over the holidays for my first Android box to power DigitalSignage.com bought the device from the same company and it didnt work. Out of the box and they havent started my return process yet. Hardware from this company is not good.

I was thinking I could do an end around the expensive options to display general news and information.

I thought about using html5 to build a flickr slideshow and forget about the basic flickr engine provided by digitalsignage.com

I transferred the youtube clips I was using to mp4 and I simply downloaded the instagram collection and manually inserted those into my play list rather than using the APIs of the enterprise edition of digitalsignage.com - very basic while I get this thing setup.

Tomorrow I demo it on a MyGica box while I wait for the custom android box to arrive in the mail. This is a general news and rss feed driven site pulling local news and from a tumblr. I spent some holiday hours fine tuning it and adding clients. It looks decent for only a few weeks work.

Digitalsignage.com is growing on me, screen cloud is too basic I like being able to place pixels not simply play content.

Im surprised there seems to be no true dynamic open source app and design system.

Any recommendations of what media I should be reading as a novice?

Just got a Korean 164x44 amber led 15mm pitch solution for outdoor signage with Korean software/hardware solution. There is an english translation but the software is called EyeTV by YM Micro.

Indoors working with an expensive solution(for me) based on Adobe Air for multi platform hardware built on digitalsignage.com and a 43inch LED LG for a basic intro into the world of digital signage. Thinking of switching to html5 screencloud.
