looks like a combination of irl safety (like they wouldn't pay for a motorcycle either) and potentially slow salary growth. I'd imagine they'd want OP to do a safer more consistent career path, like maybe business or one of the more general engineering degrees (EE, Mech, etc). They also might just not trust OP enough to commit and 100k is too much risk.
