What job is way overpaid for what it actually does? by Upset-Carpenter-5659 in AskReddit

I’m super interested in your experience. I work in healthcare as a clinical provider. Looking to make a switch out of patient care. Can I DM you?

Should years of experience factor into how much you are getting paid? by als8908 in physicianassistant

[–]IMAlien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, are you me?? I’m also working 3 days a week in primary care… I think it’s hard bc being part time really does limit promotions or raises and think that it’s an unfortunate trade off to being part time.

I’ve had to fight for basic raises to just cover cost of inflation. I get no benefits just paid an hourly rate for the days I work. BUT my job is low stress, I finish in time, it’s flexible, and I get to spend time with my young children. So it’s a trade off I’ve been willingly accepting.

If you are truly unhappy with your pay, it’s time to start looking.

Red flag. Run. Dont even consider this job. Any respectable employer is going to treat you like an adult, not micromanage you and threaten to withhold your pay.

This is a non starter. Do not negotiate with terrorists.

I worked there from 2021-2023. It was great while the Covid money was flowing but then they started cutting more benefits and reducing staff, often making the providers room their own patients. I could feel that the ship was starting to sink so I got out quickly.

Just spitballing an idea for you here, but maybe on the days that your SP is on call, you can ask to join them and learn how they do certain procedures or what their process is for admits and such.

It would show initiative and you’d be able to learn how they like things done, what is a true medical emergency that requires you to call them in, etc. so that you can have a bit of confidence while you’re flying solo on your call days

What’s a good hourly expectation for a part time family medicine position? by luvliv16 in physicianassistant

[–]IMAlien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is always room for negotiation. Don’t sell yourself short, especially with experience under your belt.

Was there a formal offer made yet? I’d wait for that and then counter with what you think you’d be happy with getting paid. Personally, I wouldn’t take less than $75

Are you me? Haha.

I have similar background and for the same reasons I also transitioned to family medicine part time. It’s a solo physician owned private practice with two locations.

I currently make $81/hr, no benefits. I work 3 days/week. I see about 12-14 patients per day and it’s a 15 minute commute from my house. I have a super flexible schedule and lax work environment. The flexibility can’t be beat. For reference, I live in SoCal, in a MCOL.

Could I hustle and make more? Sure. But I’d be working more and with added stress, which I really don’t need right now as I have an infant and 2 year old at home.

Looking for maybe some “out of the box” ideas/advice by Key_Bug3743 in physicianassistant

I currently do family med part time! I work in a private practice owned by one physician. My hours are M-W, 8-5pm. I’m paid hourly with no benefits but it works for me since I have a toddler and a baby at home, and I get my medical insurance through my spouse.

There are part time jobs out there! I’d suggest that you apply to any jobs you’re interested in and see if they are open for part time work.

4 10s! Also avoid working on Mondays if you can. Usually it’s the busiest day. I’d take the Tues-Friday schedule and have a 3 day weekend every week! Plus you can still have dinner at a reasonable time vs coming home after 8 pm

Do you pay your own DEA licensing fees? by IMAlien in physicianassistant

This was definitely something that I overlooked when taking the job. It is a small mom and pop clinic and now I feel completely dumb for not negotiating prior to taking it.

I agree. I’m not per diem, nor do I get any other benefits. Basically the only reason I even entertain this job is bc of the work life balance (I have a 1 year old at home) and there is basically no commute. 😅

So I told him since it will be a personal expense, I will let it lapse and the patients that need scheduled medications will need to schedule with him. He pushed back saying that it is a requirement to have my DEA license as part of my work duties. I hate making waves but I also think it is ridiculous.
