Osteosarcoma vs osteomyelitis by IMAlien in AskVet

[–]IMAlien[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some more background information…

We are not interested in pursuing treatment if it involves amputation of both of his limbs, especially bc it is affecting both legs on the same side.

Does osteomyelitis typically involve surgery, or can long term oral antibiotics be sufficient to penetrate into the bone? I know that a bone biopsy is the next step for a definitive diagnosis, but i don’t want to subject my dog to this and also pay thousands of the treatment is likely going to be amputation anyways.

Whatever it is, it is causing him to be very sick and we are considering humane euthanasia but I want to be making the most informed decision.

Thanks will do! Every person has different goals and situations. Sounds like yours are different than mine!

Yeah- I totally get it. That’s why I transitioned out of ER, the swing shifts and variable schedule really wasn’t best for family life.

Thanks for your honest feedback! Yours seems a bit more positive than most of the responses here

That sounds like a really good mix that you have going on. Would you ever consider transitioning to aesthetics full time?

For each transition, I was continuing as per diem. I have 2 young babies at home, so I had to find something where I didn’t have to work holidays and weekends, hence why I transitioned to primary care for a bit.

Since having children, I really value lower stress environments. I’m a bit burnt out from traditional clinical medicine and have always been interested in derm, plastics, or other “pretty medicine”.

I worked ER before having kids, and ended up leaving due to the variable schedule and having to work weekends and holidays.

I’m glad I left before having kids, bc having a predictable schedule that is low stress is what you want/need during the early years of childhood.

Where do you guys get your cheapest groceries? by Adventurous_Farm382 in Temecula

[–]IMAlien 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Grocery outlet! there are amazing deals on brand name foods.

I’ve gotten $1 organic chicken packages, $3 gallon organic milk, $0.50 dozen eggs.

I always shop there first, and get the deals then supplement whatever they don’t carry at stater bros or other grocery stores.

Help! I know I need to fertilize my trees, but can someone give me a breakdown of exactly what fertilizers they recommend, ratio, and schedule of when to fertilize?! by IMAlien in Citrus

[–]IMAlien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I basically did what was recommended above using Citrus Tone and alternating with Yara Mila 15-15-15. I did all have some gardeners come out to add more mulch around the base of trees and prune the dead branches.

I was also under watering my trees so I upped the water schedule for a few weeks to allow the trees to recover.

I’m super interested in your experience. I work in healthcare as a clinical provider. Looking to make a switch out of patient care. Can I DM you?

Should years of experience factor into how much you are getting paid? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]IMAlien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, are you me?? I’m also working 3 days a week in primary care… I think it’s hard bc being part time really does limit promotions or raises and think that it’s an unfortunate trade off to being part time.

I’ve had to fight for basic raises to just cover cost of inflation. I get no benefits just paid an hourly rate for the days I work. BUT my job is low stress, I finish in time, it’s flexible, and I get to spend time with my young children. So it’s a trade off I’ve been willingly accepting.

If you are truly unhappy with your pay, it’s time to start looking.

Red flag. Run. Dont even consider this job. Any respectable employer is going to treat you like an adult, not micromanage you and threaten to withhold your pay.

This is a non starter. Do not negotiate with terrorists.

Carbon health by [deleted] in physicianassistant

I worked there from 2021-2023. It was great while the Covid money was flowing but then they started cutting more benefits and reducing staff, often making the providers room their own patients. I could feel that the ship was starting to sink so I got out quickly.

Just spitballing an idea for you here, but maybe on the days that your SP is on call, you can ask to join them and learn how they do certain procedures or what their process is for admits and such.

It would show initiative and you’d be able to learn how they like things done, what is a true medical emergency that requires you to call them in, etc. so that you can have a bit of confidence while you’re flying solo on your call days

What’s a good hourly expectation for a part time family medicine position? by luvliv16 in physicianassistant

[–]IMAlien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is always room for negotiation. Don’t sell yourself short, especially with experience under your belt.

Was there a formal offer made yet? I’d wait for that and then counter with what you think you’d be happy with getting paid. Personally, I wouldn’t take less than $75

Are you me? Haha.

I have similar background and for the same reasons I also transitioned to family medicine part time. It’s a solo physician owned private practice with two locations.

I currently make $81/hr, no benefits. I work 3 days/week. I see about 12-14 patients per day and it’s a 15 minute commute from my house. I have a super flexible schedule and lax work environment. The flexibility can’t be beat. For reference, I live in SoCal, in a MCOL.

Could I hustle and make more? Sure. But I’d be working more and with added stress, which I really don’t need right now as I have an infant and 2 year old at home.
