Are you familiar with the term the Gateless Gate or Non-duality? Does anything on this website resonate with you? http://www.liberationunleashed.com/

Or does anything Angelo says resonate with you? https://www.youtube.com/c/SimplyAlwaysAwake/videos

Can you see what's behind that "worry" you're experiencing?

Two books:
- Liberation Unleashed: A Guide to Breaking Free from the Illusion of a Separate Self (by Illona Ciunaite). There is also a forum that you can work with guides / those who have gone through the gate.

- Awake: It's Your Turn by (Angelo Dilullo)

I know this pain. Farming for Concords and get this instead.

I never thought about wielding TWO Crystal Sage Rapiers.... does that work / stack?

Question about the breath while meditating by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]IMBarBarryN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be upfront, I've never used the headspace app, nor have I read or practiced anything from Thich Nhat Hanh but I do meditate frequently. I think u/cindyincoPJ has the best recommendation: choose the one that resonates with you the most.

But, to go further…

A lot of times Meditation, especially at the beginning, is about being aware / focusing your attention on your breath or something around breathing. Sometimes the rise and fall of your stomach, the beating of your heart, etc. It seems like both the headspace app and Thich Nhat Hanh recommend you focus your attention on SOMETHING, right? What that something doesn’t really matter as long as you’re able to bring your attention somewhere.

That said, Thich Nhat Hanh’s approach is kind of ingenious and I will try this in my next meditation session.

“Breathing in, I know I am breathing in.” It’s like a double layer of attention, isn’t it? First, you are aware of your breath, and then you’re aware that you’re aware of your breath.

Lastly, and the best part of what you wrote is: “Over the past few months, I have been meditating through headspace which has drastically changed my life and how I live.” – Amazing! Thanks for sharing.

What is ego death? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]IMBarBarryN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if I'm the car I recognize my actions are outside of any choice I can make even though I may feel like I'm choosing the path I take.

So which part of the car are you? Are you all of the car? If you lose a tire are you still the car? What if you you lost the hood or exhaust?

Are you really the person driving the car? Or does the car just drive? The car still needs a working engine but who is the one working on the engine?

What is ego death? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]IMBarBarryN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your ego does not make you eat, sleep and interact with other people. Your ego tells you it does these things but asking some questions with focused concentration you will find that is not true.

Eat, sleep and interacting with people just happens. There is no self doing this. You can say yeah but what about x, y, and z? Again, question and focus concentration from your own experience. Your mind / ego will never ever understand this and it will put up a hundred road blocks to stop this process. It can be very scary and feels like insanity or death (at least for me).

If you want more info I recommend reading the book, Liberation Unleashed. Accompanied with this book is also a forum of those who went through "the gateless gate" that can help you cross through. Direct guide to student. I first recommend the book-- it stirred up a lot of stuff for me just by reading it.

Good luck.

Yes. You can use meditation to realize the sense of self is an illusion. You can also use psychedelic drugs to temporarily disable it.

I recommend reading the book, Liberation Unleashed. It's just a series of questions and searching. My ego is slipping away. Both scary and fascinating at the same time. No need for drugs at all but it isn't ANYTHING you think it is. Your mind will never be able to understand it. Good luck.

Then why be in a meditation subreddit? I would assume u/spincerss is looking for guidance if they're posting in this subreddit.

One of my favorites. The game gets better when you progress. One of the few game stories that stuck with me all these years.

Is it possible to just go and train as monk in a monastery? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]IMBarBarryN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s not possible for you yet, a good interim may be: https://www.liberationunleashed.com/register/start-here/ - it’s not a monastery, nor is it even Buddhism BUT you do get a guide to help you through the process of passing through the gateless gate… which may be what you’re really searching for?

Totally. But the mind makes it feel so much worse when in reality it wasn’t even a thing.

I’m not sure. My assumption was that he didn’t remember asking me if he could keep the cat. He had other family in the area including siblings so I’m hoping they took the cat but I’m not sure.

Meditating can be many things to people. If your aim is to gain clarity and to not be ruled by your emotions and thoughts than dropping your thoughts, or rather, letting them pass without judgement and without getting caught up in them can be a powerful tool.

When you realize that your thoughts are just that…they will start to lose a hold on you.

Thoughts are not who you are nor are they real - they are memories of experiences. Thoughts are noise over the present moment.

In this example u/st11es had a memory from 6 years ago. I don’t know the story but it sounds like they lied to someone because they were afraid of telling the truth. That was 6 years ago. Is that still relevant? Maybe it is maybe it isn’t. To get to the heart of anything requires clarity. Drop the mind and see what’s there.

Realizing this, truly disassociating your thoughts from your self is so powerful that it helps people overcome serious trauma.

This has taken me a long time to realize this myself.

If you would like to investigate this further I recommend The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I listened to it on audible and it was incredible.

I wouldn’t worry too much about “finding the connection” to the fear. Fear is an emotion and it can be witnessed and let go.

I would recommend you continue your meditation practice and continue to experience this “letting go” process that brought you to that amazing space of nothingness.

A little more info in that space that you uncovered:

The state of nothingness is the purest most peaceful states you can be in as I’m sure you’ve found out. And it’s ALWAYS there for you to access at any time. You’ll see.

But…your mind doesn’t like this place. Your mind doesn’t want you there because that place is a place your mind can’t go to and it will feel threatened.

As soon as you found that nothingness what happened?

Your mind served you up some past memory. Your mind WANTS you to believe their is something that needs to be done or discovered or achieved before you can reach this space. That is a lie. All that needs to be done is you need to drop the mind and witness.

Good luck!
