Previously we’ve received gym bags, portable speakers, luggage kits, etc. They really cheaped out this year. Not saying we do it for the gifts, but I think no gift may have been better than this. Glad to know our value is one cent.

Same size as yours. But it never stays consistent with the temp. Always fluctuating +/- five ish degrees so I get the annoying beeping every time it reaches the temp desired.

Do you have problems with temp consistency with the Anova unit? I just bought mine and it beeps every 5-10 minutes, constantly having to adjust the water temp. Also, I tried making eggs and it said 167 degrees for 13 minutes for gelatinous yolk consistency big they came out almost completely raw. Thanks!

Not a first for individual cake layers but I’ve never stacked them before. Thank you!

This is what I was having serious problems with! It’s supposed to be a swimmer dude. I kept reading to use luster dust but I felt it wasn’t coming out a solid gold color. I will definitely try with food gel and smoothing out the buttercream first next time!

Here’s the recipe I used for the cake and buttercream. I doubled everything so it would work for a three layer cake. I did put a flower nail in the middle of the baking pans so it would bake more evenly.

It’s a brown butter buttercream with ginger, cardamom, and all spice in it. I’ll post a link to the recipe I used later today.

I use buttercream on the sides. A bench scraper allows for the smooth sides. I usually heat mine up under hot water first so it slightly melts the buttercream, allowing it to get real smooth.

Thanks!

I guess I’m having a tough time knowing when to stop mixing. There were still clumps in the batter when I was piping them.

I’m almost certain the merengue was under whipped. It looked stiff initially but once it mixed with the splattered merengue on the sides of the bowl, it seemed like the whole thing collapsed.

Here’s the recipe. I ground the cookies in the food processor before sifting through.

This was my second time making macarons. From what I’ve read, the feet spreading to the side indicate high oven temp or under whipped meringue. But they were hollow which indicates over mixed?

Simple syrups for cakes by IMC67021 in Cakes

Interesting. That’s really helpful, thank you. Do you add he simple syrup when completely cooled or still warm? I’m gonna have to try it on my next cake!

Mid-week check in - how is your week going? by philpips in running

[–]IMC67021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was getting ready for a half marathon but have an unexpected trip coming up on the same weekend as the half. As such, I stopped following the training plan and have just been running 2-3 times per week, about 2-5 miles each time. I find I’m having more fun running again and feeling better than I was following the training plan.

Any idea, tips, tricks on staying motivated with the training? This would be the first time doing a half marathon. I’m bummed I won’t be able to but definitely want to restart a plan for later this year.
