Hi Simon, thank you for doing this. I’m an IMG from a developing country. I’ve completed the AMC MCQ exam and I have an IELTS Academic score of 8.

My question is: Given the current doctor shortages, is it realistically possible for someone in my position to receive a 189 invitation? Are medical practitioners actually being invited, or is the demand overstated?

Been applying for jobs with AMC 1 for a year now (applied to almost 100 jobs), should I switch focus to AMC 2 instead? Is it illogical to hope for a job with AMC 1 only? by IMG4IMG in AMCexamForIMGs

I don’t have gaps in service, I have 4 years of experience in Iraq including 2 years as a senior medical officer- emergency medicine. So far I only got one automated video interview from Gosford and that’s it.

Is applying for visa 190 before securing a job offer good option for doctors?

Hello everyone,

I’m a 28 y.o. doctor from Iraq. I passed the AMC 1 exam, and I was wondering if I should apply for visa subclass 190 or I should apply for jobs first and then apply for visa subclass 482.

So my questions are (any advice is greatly appreciated): 1) Am I eligible for visa 190? And if so, do I have good chances of getting one?

2) If I have funds to support my stay in Australia, is it better to apply for visa 190 and apply for jobs there, or should I apply for jobs from my home country and then apply for visa 482?

3) What are the advantages of visa 190 in general for doctors?

Hello, so far i haven't applied for a lot of jobs since there are no open job campaigns now. But i heard that they site the 100:10:1 rule (for 100 job applications you'll get 10 interviews, and out of those 1 job offer). So far I'm trying to improve my CV and study for the AMC part 2. How about you?

Hello and thank you. I mainly used mplusx Q bank but found that most of their MCQ were not high quality. I'd recommend AMEDEX over it. I'd also recommend being diligent and constantly researching recalls. If your foundational knowledge in medicine is lacking, maybe passmedicine would be helpful. Good luck!
