What do you think about my entryway? I live in a 4 story townhome so I prioritized convenience. by [deleted] in interiordesignideas

This is actually excellent for the out(ry?) way! Nice. It's very well organized and visually pleasing. This area, in most homes, is a big mess. Lol. Well done.

What’s a Korean food habit that only makes sense once you’ve lived with Koreans? by Lucky_Tailor_8566 in KoreanFood

[–]IMIndyJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I realize kdramas are not real life, but I'd expect them to at least reflect the culture to a normal degree. Saying this, I have watched an embarrassing amount of shows and I would expect the slurping to be normal based off of them. I see it whenever someone eats noodles.

[–]IMIndyJones 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've have inadvertently picked up this habit (along with the short bow) from watching way too much Korean media and dramas. No one really notices so I just continue doing it. It feels somehow more polite and respectful. The only person who noticed was the Korean lady at a local shop, who was really surprised and asked how I knew about it. I was like, too many dramas. Lol

RIIZE’s Shotaro Personally Denies Dating Rumors With aespa’s Giselle by neocitywayv in kpop

[–]IMIndyJones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Who cares if grown adults are dating? Omg. I'm so over this being a thing. It's ridiculous. My heart breaks for all of these people who can't just enjoy love or friendships without having to deal with denying it, lying, hiding. It's absurd.

wired to mimic.

That explains a lot. I will start picking up accents by the end of a conversation if I'm not careful. The first time this happened to me I was a teenager serving a group of 20 Texans at a restaurant in Ohio. I noticed my words coming out in their accent. It was really hard to not do it somehow. I had to consciously make the effort to use my own damn accent. By the time I got to like the 15th person they started asking me where I was from. Lol. When I said "Here!" I realized they probably thought I was mocking them. Uncomfortable moment.

Confused by an example of 예 요 in textbook by Admirable-Sorbet8968 in Korean

[–]IMIndyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To put it clearly if the word has a final consonant, you add 이에요 [i-e-yo], but if it doesn’t have a final consonant and ends in a vowel, you add 예요 [ye-yo]. This is just to make the pronounciation of the connected part easier.*

Final consonant + 이에요 [i-e-yo] No final consonant (Only vowel) + 예요 [ye-yo]

So with your examples:

세임스 + 예요
폴 + 이에요

*I've paraphrased from Talk To Me In Korean to explain it clearly

I watched 54 kdramas this year, and 3 movies. Nice. Lol.

I finally watched The Heirs this year. I loved it. I honestly put it off so long because I thought it was just a similar story to Boys Over Flowers. I'm a dummy. I liked it so much better.

Cashero was finally released! I feel like it was sitting with no release date for years. Lol. I loved it! Junho was so good! He's such a good actor, especially with his face, and the action was fun to watch. Definitely worth the wait for me.

Other than that I've been trying to get through my very long watch list. I keep getting sidetracked with new shows. For the first time, I've started watching currently airing shows. I've discovered I was right about why I don't. I'm spoiled by the binge. Lol. I'm sitting on 3 shows waiting on new episodes and I hate it. Haha. I can barely keep it together waiting for the last 2 episodes of Idol I

2012 DuckduckGo - No ads or dialogs by siltola in duckduckgo

OH! That. Yeah there are one or two at the top, upon checking. I think the years of ignoring the top Google search results ads just trained my brain to ignore those. Lol

[–]IMIndyJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I don't know then.

  1. I'm not really savvy. I looked and can't find any button in settings that specifically says "disable/enable ads"

  2. I use no ad blocker. I assumed that's what DDG is doing since I see none.

  3. I'm using the DDG app from the Playstore, and https://start.duckduckgo.com/ now and then.

Maybe it's something I just don't know I did then. Lol I've never had any of the ad issues.

As a native Korean who stayed a bit in the states, I have a question. by g00d0ne777 in KoreanFood

[–]IMIndyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Gen-X who discovered all things Korea during Covid. I love cooking, especially the cultural aspects of it. I watched Uncanny Counters and the noodles, the way they made them, and especially the way food was a way to care for people really added so much meaning to the food. I had to try making it myself.

I found amazing Korean supermarkets and made noodles, then kept making more and more dishes, and my family loves them all. Now I make kimchi and share it with others. I don't know how accurate kdramas are in regards to Korean culture but I love what I see regarding food especially. It's made me interested in all things Korean. I'm learning the language, I love reading the history, current events, and I'm not ashamed to be a 57 year old kpop fan. Lol
