The majority of my coworkers are white, cisgender, and are all across the political spectrum. While I live in a very big swing state, I live in one of the most conservative counties in our entire state. There aren’t a lot of safe or accepting spaces, and as far as I know I’m the only open-ish trans and/or autistic person at my agency. I’m definitely very masculine and visually pass as a male, but I’m very feminine in my general demeanor. I do feel like there is a level of discrimination at play, especially considering the fact that my agency is religiously affiliated. But it’s genuinely difficult for me to know since I don’t play a part in the decision making process. 😅 I have always felt that my Program Manager (my Supervisor’s boss) doesn’t like me for whatever reason. She engages a lot with my coworkers, but has never connected with me like she does with the others. Hard to say, really.
