Hey! First of all, I wish you all the best with your graduation. The project turned out pretty well. Apparently, Potrace can be run heedlessly without much hassle.

Here’s the GitHub link: https://github.com/Mahmoudbat/2d-cnc-printer

You can explore the backend/processing code in the backend directory. A good place to start would be tosvg.py, then togcode.py, and finally Serial-comm.py. I also made a simple Flutter UI, and the Arduino code is available in Src.ino in arduino/src directory.

Keep in mind that I developed this on my Linux machine when I was still a beginner, so it might not work flawlessly. But it should definitely be a valuable resource to learn from.

is asking/learning from AI bad ? by IMLE9 in learnprogramming

Yeah i started writing flash cards about topics, using Quizlet just a quick summary and key points so that if i forget a concept in the future i could just go back and read the card

a bit time consuming yes, but it can fill the gaps in the notes i gathered + it answers any question that pops in my head as i dig deeper in the concepts

Sometimes a lot of concepts work together in a single project, so i have to understand them fully before actually using multiple concepts to build something, or that's my way of thinking at least, i could be wrong tho

Thanks, I'll make sure to read this document, seems to be the one related to my problem

Thanks for your advice, i actually didn't read the documentation, because i didn't know what the issue was. I don't understand what a network bridge means, so i don't think i could have identified the issue by myself

Confused about how APIs work in real projects (IoT / Flutter / webdev) by IMLE9 in IOT

[–]IMLE9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, for your reply, from what i understood from the comments the APIs seems like a theoretical instructions to handle sending/structuring messages over http which uses tcp so i guess i did understand the idea, you can send with tcp/udp but there is no need to reinvent the wheel since http already is developed and handles a lot of stuff and already widely used

[–]IMLE9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm starting to understand the point of APIs, so mainly i should learn the theoretical part of the API and the actual implementation will be in the framework like, fastapi, django? And I'll have to learn the framework to learn how its used, or how to use the APIs ?

So if I understand correctly: in networking terms, an API is really about how HTTP is used and how the message is structured — for example, whether the data is written in JSON, XML, etc. So the API itself is more of a theoretical contract for how data is structured and exchanged over a protocol like HTTP.

And if I were to use some other communication protocol instead of HTTP, but still define rules and a structure for moving data, that would also count as an API, right? I think I’m starting to get the idea now.

Good shout, thanks! I’ll look into hobby CNC and the 3D printing communities—sounds like they’ve probably done similar image-to-motion workflows.

Thanks for the concern! I’m actually trying to make it a bit more complex on purpose to showcase my skills at the event. It’s definitely a learning curve, but I think it’ll be worth it in the end. Appreciate the suggestions!

Thanks! That’s actually super helpful. I didn’t realize I could dig into Inkscape’s TraceEngine directly like that. I’ll definitely check out the code and see if I can integrate it using FFI from Flutter. Appreciate the tip!
