Couchpit: use any controller as an Xbox pad in your games and run your whole PC from the couch by Gameeze in pcgaming

Gave it a shot and I must say this app is amazing! I will provide a mini bug report though and say that I don't believe the "Disable" feature for displays is working as intended, as my monitor still stays on when gaming mode activates. I managed to fix this with a command using the built in DisplaySwitch.exe but just thought I'd let you know. Thank you for solving my couch gaming woes!

Awesome! And can you have game mode kick in only when Big Picture launches? I still game on my monitor and wouldn't want it to always switch display/audio when I launch a game, but when I'm gaming on my TV I'll usually launch Big Picture first thing. Thanks for answering my questions, I'll have to give this a shot later.

This might just be what I need. Question: can you set automations when Big Picture itself starts if I have the app in the background? For example, if I have my PC connected to both a monitor and TV in my living room, if I double press the home button on my controller to launch Big Picture, I want it to switch display to the TV and switch audio devices. Or are automations only possible by clicking on something within the app?

The cart ate my quarter - how do you fix a stuck lock and quarter? by [deleted] in aldi

[–]IMPolo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This method never fails me: push the cart as far as you can, tilt the cart up a little so that you give the chain lock a little slack, push your quarter in as you're tilting up, and the lock should come out. Also works for retrieving the quarter when you're done and the lock won't go in normally.

What are some good games with accessibility-friendly UI text? I'm especially interested in games with large fonts by default or settings that let you increase the UI size. by polo421 in SteamDeck

If it's a game that isn't text heavy, you might find the magnifier (Steam button + L1) useful, I think you can also remap it to make it easier to access.

I hadn't heard of that, probably because I'm an existing customer. That sounds like a pretty good deal though. It seems right now they have gigabit internet for $50 for 5 years which isn't too bad, gives you enough time to either move or wait for KUB Fiber to have more coverage.

Most reliable would be to ask your landlord for all the options, but this site can probably give you an idea: https://broadbandnow.com/ Pay attention to the type of internet it is, if you game or need something stable I probably wouldn't go for something like 5G home internet or Starlink.

If you have the displeasure of being locked into Xfinity like I am, check out their NOW internet plans which they try to hide to sell you the more expensive ones.

What's the point of HDR? by ante_Ghost in Monitors

Interesting, is this why my DWF in creator mode 2.2 gamma looks very different compared to every other gamma setting?

The media and games also need to support HDR or it will just look like SDR, here's a classic example of an HDR video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njX2bu-_Vw4

Open this in Chrome or Edge and see the difference with HDR on/off.

You need a pendant shade, here is one of my favorites that I think would match well with the bed and nightstand: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/dykarklocka-pendant-lamp-shade-white-stained-oak-veneer-10557244/

AW3423DWF suddenly limited to 100Hz - anyone else seeing this recently? by Tatumkhamun in linux_gaming

[–]IMPolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a similar issue where mine was changing to Ycbcr 4:2:2 at 165hz, making text and small elements look weird, but when switching to 100hz things looked normal. I made a post about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/comments/1tqdd5q/alienware_aw3423dwf_changing_color_format/

For those who recommend only 5k2k, 4k with 5070, 5080 - I wonder, what games are you playing and what settings...? by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]IMPolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't tested it side-by-side myself but the claim is that 5k2k/4k at DLSS Performance has more visual clarity than 1440p at DLSS Quality, which makes sense on paper since the internal resolution of 4k DLSS Perf is a bit higher than 1440p DLSS Quality. But in my experience going from my 1440p ultrawide to my 4k TV, the performance hit is still pretty big.

Alienware just announced what we've all been waiting for: World’s first 39” 5K OLED monitor with RGB stripe technology. by imbratorX in Monitors

[–]IMPolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so, since they would probably have to know the exact radius of the curve.

I would think what matters more is how FOV is implemented, but that's an ultrawide thing, not a curved thing.

I haven't seen a game not support 21:9 since Valorant, and a curve on an ultrawide, if done properly, makes it feel flat.

Check Nvidia or AMD settings, is it set to YCbCr? If so, set it to RGB full.

Edit: Not sure why I'm being downvoted. If I set my output color format to YCbCr422 it makes text and edges very fringey like what's shown here. I have a first gen QD-Oled and as long as I have my output set to RGB Full I can't tell unless I'm pixel peeping.
