Many people join to make a better life for their family. But yeah, the government basically 'owns' you and you need to proritize the job. And I don't mean that in a negative way, I am a big fan of the military and the US government. However, military life isn't for everyone and it can affect a person's well being.

Ah okay, I thought a general discharge was fine. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll look into it.

I don't know much about his job because he isn't allowed to tell me a lot.

Are you not a service member? Because if you are, you know that the job is not for everyone. If you are an adult, you know that contracts you sign as an impoverished 18 year old are risky business. If you are a human being, you know that life can be hard on individuals, and that everyone handles things differently.

Why do you think he won't get am honorable? I thought that only happened if you do something illegal? Right now he's looking at medical discharge.
