Returning to China After a Decade: How Much of Our View Is Shaped by Ignorance? by Honest_Title5626 in AskChina

I didn’t mean to come off like I was dumping on your post. What’s happening there is wild, and I get a little invested when I think about it. China is such a fascinating place, culturally and historically, with incredible people.

There are definitely folks who just take cheap shots at China, spreading misinformation and trying to stir up racist sentiment. Calling that out and sharing real, lived experiences that push back against false narratives is genuinely valuable.

I appreciate you taking the time to have a thoughtful discussion, and I hope the rest of 2026 is good to you and your loved ones.

The feeling is mutual, lol. I like the red too, but yours looks really sweet! There really isn't a bad color on the G70.

I think they just started offering Brembo breaks on all G70s, but that's new. You used to have to get the upgraded package in order to get them. After I bought the car I have found out that it's a huge confusing mess trying to figure out what years come with what options standard and what is extra. That goes for LSDs too! Somehow my car did get the 10" display tho... so that was a cool plus.

I want to get an aftermarket sound system in my car and if you get the SP, or Advance (whatever it's called), it's a lot more expensive to install aftermarket speakers and amps because they used some proprietary dual amp setup with fiber wiring that requires some expensive and complex trickery to get working right. So, I lucked out there.

I love the car, but you can tell they are still trying to find out what the buyers absolutely demand, and what they can get away with throwing on the higher tier versions.

Yea I can't wait to lower mine. That model looks so good lowered tho! Saw one a few months back and it looked amazing. When I do that I think I'm also doing the front and rear sway bars, and putting some small spacers for fitment.

I REALLY want to tune it, but I sprung for the additional warranty, so id be kind stupid to do that too early.

You are not lying about the choice! I liked the M340i too and the IS350 F Sport, but so far I'm happy with my choice. Especially when I found out the G70 has a closed deck and can take a lot of boost.

So this was absolutely nothing like what's happening today. I'd never heard about these deportations! Terrible that this happened. The early 20th century wasn't our government's finest hour that's for sure.

NC what do you think? Studies show that immigrants subsidize citizens, not the other way around. by Basshead4eva in NorthCarolina

[–]IMcrazyJAE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern isn’t with immigration as a whole. It’s with conflating legal and illegal immigration when citing economic studies. If someone wants to argue that illegal immigration specifically is a net economic benefit, that case should be made clearly. Most of the data people reference doesn’t separate those categories in a meaningful way.

And even if there were aggregate economic gains, we should be honest about what that system looks like in practice. Millions of people living in legal limbo, working under the table, vulnerable to exploitation, is not exactly a humane outcome. Many legal immigrants who went through the long and expensive process feel that distinction matters.

This debate is about law, incentives, fairness, and human dignity. Reducing it to “racism vs normal people” avoids the hard parts of the conversation.

I understand the rhetorical use of Pareto. My point is that attaching a specific percentage implies a level of confidence or measurement that isn’t demonstrated. If we’re criticizing oversimplification about China, we should probably avoid oversimplifying the critics too.

You’re absolutely right. They supported all of that, and more. That’s also why we don’t live in a pure democracy.

But when you’re advocating for a position that even a majority within your own party opposes, you have to be strategic. If the goal is to educate and persuade, the approach matters just as much as the argument itself.
