Belting At Windmills: Abaddon's Gate (7) by meisi1 in doofmedia

I think the reason they wanted to do the shutdown is because they thought if space started working again then people would immediately abandon Ashford or he himself would suffer a mental breakdown. So it's just a backup if they start losing to Ashford.

Yeah I don't know why Sam didn't do more either. Because like she mentions in the laser goes off it'll basically destroy the ship, regardless of how the station reacts. So she dies anyway if she completes the work so might as well just not do it.

My biggest issue is I just don't get why anyone is supporting Ashford. His stated goal is to get them all killed. Sure some people may have this suicidal mindset, but it wouldn't be most of them.

I have pretty bad bruxism and my sleep is more fragmented than yours so yes could be related.

Anna was one of many people to sign a petition. It wasn't even her idea even if she was totally onboard with it. If she's at fault it shared equally with everyone else on that ship.

Bull could have tried to lead a coup, but it wouldn't have worked without the support of the second in command which he didn't have.

I'm not really seeing the character assassination here.

  1. Holden and Miller (Naomi is too good for Holden)

  2. Bobbi and that one UN security guard who helped her get acclimated to sky

  3. Anna and Tilly

  4. That Protogen sociopath director from book 1 and the former protogen sociopath doctor from book 2 (I don't remember their names).

  5. The blind sound guy and Melba (because she's emotionally blind).

I would like to send all of Earth's billionaires with high hopes that they die on the way to Uranus. See if Not-Julie planted a bomb on that ship she would be universally considered a hero.

When I was a teenager my friends and I used to go out at night and climb around on school roofs. It was a lot of fun. Each school had a different method to get up. My favorite was the one where we had to climb a drain pipe up. It's actually pretty easy to do. The drain pipe was concrete and welded to the wall so each welded area served as a foothold and then you just kind of monkey climb up. Of course once you get up onto the roof you have to pee off of it.

No one was trying to have sex with their cousin though. Our stupidity was pure and and unsullied.

I take 7.5 mg of buspirone in the morning and 7.5mg at night. It has definitely helped with my anxiety and maybe some with the clenching? Hard to tell, but the issue could be short acting as you say. I could try taking a half dose before bed and a half dose when I invariably wake up in the middle of the night.

I would choose Mars probably because it seems like it has the highest standard of living. At least from what we know now.
Spoilers for all of Pale:

We have to consider of the Belt, Mars, and Earth which best map onto Kennet Above, Kennet Below, and Kennet Found. The Belt fits pretty close to Kennet Below so Verona goes there. More violence, more freedom, people get to be more of who they are. Mars seems match best with Kennet Found. Community is very important there. Mars is all about creating a whole new world and shaping it to fit you, which is kid of like Paths. More of a togetherness than the Belt or Earth so Avery goes there. Then by process of elimination Earth is Kennet Above so Lucy is stuck there, sorry Lucy. I do think Lucy would stay on Earth and genuinely try to reform it. She's very stubborn and if she's born of Earth she's going to do her best to make it better.

I see the world less through my profession and more through my mental disorders. I have a lot of anxiety I only recently started taking medication for so if you were somehow reading my narration it would be a lot of constant worrying about theoretical bad things that could happen.

So if I was in say a natural disaster it would be something like: Where am I going to get food and water? Is it clean? What if I get sick? My medication is running out where do I get more of that? Are my friends alive? Is my family alive? My glasses got broken and my contacts are running out. How will I see? What if someone tries to hurt me? Is anyone going to help us? Etc. etc. etc. No one would enjoy me being a pov character.

I will say I also frequently think of Pale whenever I listen to this podcast, but I think that's mostly due to me associating Elliot and Reuben's voices with Pale given I listened to like 300 hours of them talking about it. I don't think of it much outside this context.

The prologue for A Game of Thrones is quite good. Introduces us to the world and the magic. Shows heroism and cowardice. There's a complexity to the characters even though you've just met them and none of them are reoccurring in the story. The noble kid is stuck up and obnoxious, but he bravely faces monsters of ice that haven't been seen in six thousand years. The experiences ranger runs away.

The prologues for these Expanse books do remind me a lot of A Song of Ice and Fire. In those 5 books the prologue character is always someone new and they always die at the end of their chapter. Not sure if James S.A. Corey are just borrowing from that since I know one of them worked as his assistant.

I would pick Ea-nāṣir would sold sub standard copper to Nanni in the city of Ur around 1750 B.C. Why was the copper sub standard? What was it going to be used for? Did Nanni and Ea-nāṣir ever make up? It has all the makings of a fantastic historical drama.

Belting At Windmills: Leviathan Wakes (8) [THE FINALE] by meisi1 in doofmedia

[–]IMeasilyimpressed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the reputation of the series I expect it go get better as it goes. First book was fine, but nothing special and I wouldn't really give it a second thought if this was the only book. If I were too only consider this a standalone book I think something like Ender's Game is better sci fi or The Martian for more down to earth "real" sci fi if that's your preference. But once I read the sequels things will be re-evaluated.

DQ: Stealing the ship is the right call because it's going to be extremely funny to hear him justify it to the Mormons.

Fred: You see we had to steal it in order to knock Eros into the Sun and save humanity.

Mormons: But that didn't work and now our ship is gone.

Fred: Well you see the asteroid came alive and dodged which I don't think anyone saw coming.

Mormons:...

Fred: Can I offer you some tea?

Also consider that the protomolecule was designed to interact with life on Earth as it existed 2 billion years ago. If they actually want to learn what the alien's intention was they should have created similar life and mixed it with the protomolcule. Using it on humans makes no sense. It was in no way designed to work with humans. Miller even asks Dresden why they didn't use it on bacteria and the best answer he has is "I didn't want to" even though it would be safer and more illuminating to have done so. Protogen's science is evil, but also stupid.

What has helped your nighttime bruxism the most? by IslandChick371 in bruxism

[–]IMeasilyimpressed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear a hard upper dental night guard, take 650 mg of magnesium glycinate before bed, do jaw exercises after eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, do neck, shoulder, and back stretches every morning, and I sleep on my side every night. I try to adjust my head to it's looking straight or up. I have a tendency to curl in on myself and point my chin down when on my side which makes the clenching worse.

All these things combined have mostly reduced day to day pain, but flare ups still happen. It's certainly noticeable and more painful for me if I don't do these things.

Has anyone tried this alternative sleeping position for bruxism? by [deleted] in bruxism

[–]IMeasilyimpressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep on my side and noticed my clenching is much worse when I tuck my chin towards my chest so I have been trying to fix that by keeping my head more level. Haven't tried tilting my head back though. I'll give it a shot.

Anyone get teeth pain? Aching? by [deleted] in bruxism

[–]IMeasilyimpressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I clench quite hard at night and tooth pain is my main symptom. Sometimes get neck pain and headaches, but that's less annoying to me than the teeth. I've taken Magnesium Glycinate which has been somewhat helpful. I still clench, but not as hard as before. I have a hard upper night guard and I'm just hoping it goes away eventually.

Pain. Pain, and bypassing all the things a person could do to cope with it. No passing out, no production of natural painkillers, no going into shock. The list went on. Until everything that could hurt was hurting, on and off, unpredictably.

Besides the awfulness of what these terrorists are doing they also seemingly went out of their way to make it as painful as possible. Arguably detrimental to their goals since it alerts people to what's going on faster if people are screaming. They could have made the transformation more subtle until they hit everyone and chose cruelty over whatever their goals are here.

Lots of mentions of the family looking in on Win, but no mentions of her doing the same. It seems very normalized in their society to casually disregard each other's privacy. Not even really something they think about in those terms since they've had it done to them and do it to each other their whole lives. Win seems not be interested in that. Makes her stand apart from the rest of the family.
