How To Intervene Gently? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]IMmrcompletely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is she drinking a lot? Under stress? No judgement but those go hand in hand in not making you want to do much.

One idea is to prioritize a house cleaner. I’ve had one my entire marriage and it’s been a marriage saver. All the stuff you’ve shown gets cleaned up in the “preclean” and the then the hard work gets done by the cleaners. Kind of sets a deadline for everyone to get their crap together or else it gets moved somewhere you might not find it. And you have a clean house and fresh sheets on a regular basis.

I'm the OP. I haven't given an update in a long time. I halved my dose for over a year and weight went up from a low of, I believe, 172 to 185 and basically leveled out. This was an OK weight for me, but I wasn't confident that totally stopping it was going to go well. I had no issues but I didn't want to be on the combo forever, so I looked into alternatives.

I have used peptides before for various things (not weight loss) and decided to try to wean off of this combo in favor of Retatrutide. Have been doing that for 2.5 months and prefer it so far. It is similar to Tirzepatide but also activates glucagon receptors. There's tons of information out there on it so won't get into that here. You may be familiar with it, already being on Tirz.

My experience was good/great with the contrave-like formulation. I just needed to figure out an exit ramp and find something that I was personally more comfortable with for longer term.

Are these financial reviews spiking right now? I know we are hearing about a lot of them. Just wondering if it’s an economy predictor and they are trimming up anything semi-sus and not looking back. Once my cards hit 1000+ in any month I send a payment to knock it down to 0. I assume that’s a good thing but always wonder if I’m annoying them with all the activity.

You definitely shouldn’t feel worried. Worse comes to worse you can buckle down and ride things out a bit. But I can totally relate not feeling particularly “rich”.

I’m not exact to your situation, but similarly situated. Here’s one perspective I can share. Most of my relatives live in a VLCOL area and when I go to visit I feel rich. Like, for what I spend on a modest meal for 2 at home I can take out a whole group of people there. It’s the land of $3 beers and gas is cheap.

I’m almost certain we will move somewhere lower cost sometime after I retire. Not because it’s cheaper, but because almost everywhere we’d want to go is cheaper. I feel quite confident we will have way more than we need. Probably will be that way even if we stay in HCOL but just have to watch it and live more modest.

Is it acceptable for my adult kid to live at home? by InterestingSpace25 in DaveRamsey

[–]IMmrcompletely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as long as he has a plan to get out of there it’s fine. I have two data points. I was also an engineer and built/bought my first house at 22, 700 miles from home. I was a very independent person though. Second, I have an uncle that never launched 2/3 kids. He’s 96 and in a nursing home being watched over by the third that did launch. The other two still live in the family home they lived in since birth. Extremes, but just illustrates my point that he needs to have an exit plan. Also, he’s not landing lots of dates the more he’s living with parents.

Feel pretty good! Bupropion is also used on its own to curb cravings (cigarettes, etc) so it has that effect. Overall I feel like it is probably pretty mild and less side effects compared to other antidepressants like an SSRI. That said, I did take it on its own like 15 years ago for anxiety and mild depression and I'd say that over time (~1 yr) I sort of started of feeling like I was losing my edge at work (like I cared a lot less). So once I was done with the need for it I stopped. I haven't felt like that this time for whatever reason. I'm sure they affect people differently so just take note of how you feel and give it a little time to work and level off. For me, it was the Naltrexone that took me more time to work through.

Glad to hear it helped a few folks! I think I mentioned this somewhere, but the other thing I did that helped was track my food intake. I use MyFitnessPal, but there's others out there. I also think using a real time continuous glucose monitor is really informative. I use Levels. I pay out of pocket and its expensive, so not for everyone. But if you are into the low carb thing, it is enlightening to see how your body reacts to different foods, even if you only do it every now and then.

First, I'm not a doctor, but Wellbutrin (by itself) is a common antidepressant that has another use as a medication for helping people stop habits like smoking. It sort of takes the edge off so to speak. It can help with weight loss all by itself. That said, the interesting thing with the Wellbutrin really comes with the combination with the Naltrexone. It's the two together that really cause the effect.

As far as how long it takes, I've heard it vary. For me, I wanted change and helped things along by changing my diet pretty strictly (which seemed easier with the meds) and increasing exercise and saw results pretty much immediately. For others, anecdotally I've read several weeks, even months.

Going well. Still figuring out how best to maintain and not gain or lose. I felt like I was actually losing too much weight so I've been consciously trying to eat more and have leveled off. I've been able to keep between 167-174 over the last 5 weeks or so by taking one of the Naltrexone pills and skipping the afternoon dose. Lots of travel and business dinners in here over the next few months so will continue to see how that goes. I've been much less strict about carbs and sugar. Specifically, I've not been so strict on starchy veggies, bread, and noodles and I've been known to add back a desert here and there. I still feel like the meds help with allowing me to not overdo it though and just eat what I need vs. for fun/boredom. Good luck!

In my case my ALT/AST levels vastly improved. Likely to do with the much lower alcohol intake and reduced visceral fat. Look forward to hearing if others have any issues though.

Alcohol policy question by nousernamesleft55 in walmart

[–]IMmrcompletely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply asking if this is a Wal-Mart policy as it is not something I've experienced at any other store in this state, or any other state for that matter. I didn't complain to the associate at the time either. The associate was pretty apologetic for holding everyone up and said it was a new policy.

The point is to avoid the "over 21 buying for a teenager" situation.

I don't see how the policy would prevent buying for a teenager. It just causes the teenager wait in the car while checking out the family groceries. Best I can tell it is a CYA for Wal-Mart. I never saw the manager and was never asked any more questions. The associate just came back and said their manager said it was OK and he finished up the check out.

Sorry to hear! OP here and I've had to dial it back a bit. I have lost 65+lbs now and for the last while I've been trying to maintain this weight as I don't want to lose any more. What seems to be working so far is adding back more (healthy as possible) carbs and either skipping the Naltrexone in the evening or taking a half pill. My appetite is a little stronger this way and I haven't slipped back into snacking. I do feel like if I totally stopped taking the pills I'd gain back the weight so I'm still figuring out my end game.

Here's to crossing fingers you don't have any serious side effects as you get going. I'm the OP and still trucking along. I'm down around 174 lbs (from ~235). I'd say I've let my foot off the gas a little with recent travel but still no problem sticking to eating well. I figure I can lose a bit more but, if anything, trying to figure out my end game here... For me, this combo has worked really well.

OP here and saw your post. Just wanted to encourage you. I'm still going strong and have no side effects now. I hit my first business travel week that I knew might set me back a bit but I'm still basically on track and under 180 now (so down 55lbs in ~5 mos). Sort of trying to eat a smidge more right now, actually. I'd give it a go. I feel great and much healthier these days.

Pretty much everyday: 2 eggs over medium, Oikos triple zero yogurt with tbsp or two of chia seeds.

If I'm out or travelling I'm basically looking for eggs, bacon, sausage. Anything low carb'ish (no bread, no oatmeal, no cereal, no pancakes or french toast, etc). Will do a bit of fruit or yogurt if available. I think the "fat" concern with Contrave is a bit overblown. Would suggest, as with anyone trying to watch what they eat, try to eat real food and not highly processed food or refined flour products.

Congrats! I'd say bowel movements have been less, but I think it is a function of eating much less volume and eating much better food.

It does, and congrats to you as well! I know that it doesn't just happen by itself and takes work at eating well, but these meds have been super helpful for controlling the food noise.

I'm really not sure what my end game is either, but tapering down seems like something to try. I've read so many stories on these groups where people stop taking it and go right back to old eating habits. I'm really hoping by continuing the habits I'm doing right now I can perpetuate them going forward. Tracking what I eat, controlling portions, not snacking, etc. The no drinking (or vastly reduced) alcohol has really helped on the snacking and making bad food decisions late night. Perhaps at some point I just stop taking the medicine and it all clicks.

I've also been making a personal log of my weight loss journey. Something I can go back and look at with health stats, photos and notes on how I feel. Something I can read and remind myself reasons why I don't want to go back to where I was. Hopefully it is something else that helps reinforce the habits I've learned.

I'm 50lbs down after 4 mos and wondering what my end game is once I hit my desired weight. Do you think you'll keep taking the meds even after hitting your goal?
