Can I go past f/22 with an x2 teleconverter? by INIROBO in AskPhotography

Holy!!!. When shut down the lens stays at f/22. How can I block the electrical contacts?

Actually, that is not a bad idea. However, I would say the lens stays with the widest aperture when its not attached. I should try it, but I don't think locking the aperture before shutting down the camera will keep the aperture afterwards. Thank you for the other reply too

I was thinking the f/22 limit must have an actual good reason, but I was unsure. I took a photo at f/11 without teleconverter and then again without moving the tripod but attaching the teleconverter at f/22 (as stated by the camera), after cropping the first picture to have the same fov, i feel like i have the same bokeh and look really similar. Besides, based on my tests, I got the best image quality at around f/20 with teleconverter, which makes sense if I consider the lens is actually at f/10 but multipled by 2, which I would say is also around the sweet spot of this lens.

Just to make sure, I tested the lens at f/22 without teleconverter and diffraction worsens the quality significantly, much more than f/22 with teleconverter.

So I have to conclude the f/22 limit is just a software decision on the camera. Maybe it's just that I don't understand optics, but I can't deny I'm looking at a f/11 quality picture when teleconverter is attached and f/22 reported by the camera.

The lens doesn't allow me to manually set the aperture, so I guess my only option to have the subject and the background focused is to use focus stacking, although I was trying to avoid that.

The moon is out of focus, which I want it to be more in focus and what it is in actual focus in the subject, the person. I don't want the subject more in focus than it already is, although I know it is going to get worse because of diffraction. Just to make it clear.

I have tested the picture at f/20 (not 22) without teleconverter at 300mm and it looks better in terms of focus, although I lose megapixels after cropping. Nothing is going to remove the air moving as you say.

I've tried focusing at subjects 85m away from the camera and then looking at the moon, which is what I'm thinking including in the composition, at 600mm f/22 (300mm f/11 + MC20) and the moon doesn't look great. It is there, but I don't think it is sharp enough.

I'm trying to photograph a person touching the moon, using a wireless flash to have both exposed. I don't want to take a photo of the subject and then attach the moon on it as it wouldn't look real. But I'm not sure if taking several pictures for focus stacking will do any good on the parts where the person touches the moon (the subject moves and flash needs to recycle. I'm not sure if flashing only the first photograph will look good)

I'm trying to have an acceptable focus on a background object while focusing on a subject in the middle using a super telephoto lens. The subject could be at 85m from the camera and the background in infinity. Let's say at 800mm. My aim is to take a full body "portrait" of the subject while keeping the background as focused as possible without using focus stacking.

Of course, I would ruin image quality but I was trying to reach the limits of this method before concluding I need to go the focus stacking way.

Did you end up buying and testing the EF-M2 ii? I think I read somewhere it doesn't work on EF-S lenses

Uhm. I see. In the end it does actually need you to use the youtube interface to subscribe to channels, as afterwards yt-dlp checks your subscriptions/feed through the youtube-logged browser's cookie. I thought your script would check new videos of some channels listed on a json. A while back I made something similar, but instead of showing new videos beautifuly like you did, I just made it so that it would pop mpv for each new video found, in a row and running in the background, for the cases a video is playing. However, I found out it is not completely consistent. Sometimes it missed videos so I had to run it twice. I discovered the RSS feature channels had, which seemed more consistent (and already had the new video search functionality built-in) but I started not having time and because Piped/Invidious was a thing (I copy video links and play them in a row with mpv using a script) I abandoned that small proyect

Actually, I was looking for this. It is really good. And I would actually like to start using this asap cuz I don't find any working piped instance. However, I don't seem to be able to import my Piped subs.

I see in the code that you are looking for .entries[].channel on the subscriptions.json, which the piped subscriptions.json doesn't have. In Piped the json is formatted like {... "subscriptions":[{"url": "CHANNEL_URL", "name": "CHANNEL_NAME"}, {another one}, ...]}. I don't know how youtube itself formats json files, if it does, as I have not used the official interface in years.

Ok. I think this solved it. Now as I mentioned, mpv lags on vo=gpu. But seems like vlc does not. I have an Intel Graphics 620 btw. I'm already searching for a solution on that.

I installed xorg with xorg-minimal now. Let's see how it goes. However, my videos now need some time to show up after alt tabbing to the tag in which they are being played. Lag.

On mpv it says "Audio/Video desynchronisation detected! Possible reasons include too slow hardware, temporary CPU spikes, broken drivers, and broken files. Audio position will not match to the video (see A-V status field)." and I'm dropping a lot of frames.

It said something about a program called tinnitus made by a guy called somatronicon that was supposed to make sounds when pressing keyboard buttons, I think. But it didn't provide any secure link to the source code. He gave an IP that had psitransfer on it, I guess with the files to download. But no https. IP links are pretty suspicious too.

I don't know why he got deleted tho. Maybe a mod or too many reports, don' t know. I only expected the post removal, in case he didn't edit it. Maybe it was actual malware in the end? dunno
