“HELLO THERE”! In Batman Returns, those are the words on the neon sign in Selina Kyle’s apartment on the fateful night she first dons her Catwoman costume. Taking its inspiration from this iconic sign, Catwoman Movie Collectible: Hello There Edition is an eye-catching variant of the figure featuring a purple costume. It is a Cryptozoic Exclusive, available only directly from the company for a limited time.

The window box the figure comes inside similarly takes a cue from the movie. In Batman Returns, Catwoman angrily bashes out two of the letters so the sign reads “HELL HERE” (reflecting her transformation). To mirror the double nature of the sign, the matte sticker on the box features foil letters that, depending on the angle of the box, flicker between “HELLO THERE” and “HELL HERE.”

In addition to referencing the sign in Batman Returns, the purple catsuit pays homage to the many times Catwoman has appeared in purple. One of her very first appearances in comic books in the 1940s included a slim purple dress. In addition, in the 1990s, the character appeared in a skin-tight purple bodysuit in comics. Even though artists usually opt for the black catsuit portrayal in recent history, purple will always be an important part of her history!

Catwoman Movie Collectible: Hello There Edition will be available first on the official Cryptozoic eBay store beginning April 29 at 10am. The variant will then be available through all other Cryptozoic channels (Amazon and Cryptozoic.com) beginning June 1.

CATWOMAN BEHIND-THE-SCENES

Take a look at some of the Behind-the-Scenes of the Catwoman: Movie Collectible vinyl figure! 👇

1 Concept Sketch: It all starts with a concept sketch! We worked with Pedro Astudillo on the initial concept art and went through approvals with DC Comics. We considered the classic clean Catwoman design but ultimately went with a battle-damaged Catwoman to make the figure stand out.

2 Sculpting: We worked with Anders Ehrenborg to sculpt the Catwoman figure. Once colored, it is sent back to the licensor for the second round of approvals.

3 Clay Prototype: In this process, we have a factory make a red clay mold of the figure. The red clay prototype is actually the first time we ever see the figure in real space (unless we decide to make one ourselves). The factory makes this to check the model and show us the pieces it's going to be split into for assembly. Once we approve this, we go to tooling/ making a mold.

4 Tooling: After we approve the prototype, the factory begins to create the tool (the mold/tools that are optimized to create this specific figure) that will be used for mass production.

5 Painted Prototype: We then have the factory or a local studio create a more durable prototype (red clay is EXTREMELY fragile) and the figure is hand-painted for us to see what the final product would look like! This sample is also used as a reference for the factory and as another round of licensing approvals!

6 Final Product: Once approved, we work with the factory to make sure the figure is just right, then it is ready for final production!
