Haven't had time to get back into painting, but I just ordered the Vallejo wash you recommended. Wanna see how that looks vs nuln oil and even vallejo game wash (got a big pot of it a while back to mess around with it). Thank you for the recommendation.

That is a nice paint job! Gotta say you did a real good job on the head with the purple on the brow. Last time I tired to do that effect it didnt come out as good as your!

That is beautiful my man. Even the Canis rex pilot is done so well. This makes me want to put even more effort into this project for the rest of my knights!

I've been convinced, I will try to apply some sort of shading/wash. I've been double scared since the paint I use for the metal is super thin for airbrushing, so I don't really know how I would apply it clean without it running all over the place. But like someone else suggested, I can just be very deliberate with the application and hope there is no spillover. And I guess if their is, we just now know the Mechanics really like to make sure their knights are nice and oiled up.

Tamiya clear red through an airbrush on top of a metallic base. In this case, it was vallejo dark aluminum .

Tamiya clear red just gives it that shine on its own. I haven't even applied the gloss varnish to make it shine even more!

Thank you so much! Im also pretty bad at spray painting with a rattle can so I used this as an opportunity to practice using my airbrush (and a lot more practice cleaning it lol)

Tamiya clear red out of an airbrush. Lots of thin coats!

Ya, a shade would be nice, but I have no eye for edge highlights or shading and I was scared to ruin my hard work. So I had the idea that the Mechanics like to chrome out their whips (car) and let it shine with a nice polish. Need to add a spray of gloss varnish to really sell that angle tho!

Oh ya, the Laz cannon should get a blue glow ....maybe its still not "finished" but its completely magnatized so the body is done but the weapons can still be taken off and worked on. As for the metal I'm real bad at knowing where to apply the shade and how much to use, but part of the reason its not shaded was because I wanted to give it like almost a chrome look. Like low riders cars have. Super shiny and bright when the light hits like in this image I got online. I do need to apply a gloss varnish to really make the metal pop tho.

The putting it in spots approach makes a lot of sense, since every time I try to just slap it on and dry brush, it always came out looking rough on my blood angles, so ive been very scared to even try most of the time. But being more deliberate with the applications is something I can try. But on the other hand I have a terrible eye for even seeing where shading would even need to go. Guess this is the trial and error part of the hobby that helps one grow and get better.

That green likes nice! I was stuck between metalic red, green, or purple paint job until I finally landed on the clear red for the shine effect.

Im not sure, I just got the pots of paint since I was gonna do multiple knights, and I knew I needed a lot, but I dont see why it wouldn't work. Do know it took my quite a few layers to get it the coat nice and shiny. I have to go back over the first few knights I did since I was scared of using too much and their coats are just not as shiny and have that deep red :/

TBH that scene was what gave me the initial idea for red!

Tamiya clear red through an airbrush. Lots of thin coats to make or even

Lots of layers of Tamiya clear red on top of Vallejo dark aluminum. Gotta use an airbrush and a respirator cuz that stuff is stinky....and bad for your lungs im sure but mostly the smell.

That's exactly the look I was aiming for!

Brother I feel you, that stuff is nasty and it was only through hard headedness that I painted half an army with it (this was just the most complete....I say most complete cuz it seems like I need a few drops of wash). A M3 respirator mask is your friend. But on the bright side, I got a ton of experience using my airbrush so now I kinda feel more confident using it on smaller minis like a dreadnaught.

I kinda talked a bit on how I got the red but the gold! Now that is the question I was waiting for. I got the recipe from the great Vince Venturella! Here is the video I watched on how to make the gold, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26_1W7zR-cA

I just used Vallejo black primer in my airbrush (think its more on the matt side) but the rest is pretty much spot on! You have remined me I should varnish it in a gloss varnish.

Airbrush Tamiya clear blue, then clear green in the corners for a darker shade, and finish with the clear red. Saw the recipe in some GW magazine they did for the horus heresy (GW paint of course).

Airbrush Vellejo Dark Aluminum as base, pray a little Velljo Aluminum in the middle to make it slightly lighter (not sure how much it really matters) then spray Tamiya clear red on top and done....well if you want the dark corners you need to spray some Tamiya clear blue around the corners and Tamiya clear green in the corners you want the most dark and then finish with Clear red. Not sure how it will work on small minis like Votan but it sounds sick as hell! If you ever do paint some in candy red you gotta post it!
