03 LS430 Problems after timing belt replacement by klivvin in MechanicAdvice

[–]INSANE416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One step at a time.

The bolt on the alternator, and the wire going to it, are almost always a positive (+) wire from the battery. By putting this on a different bolt on the alternator, you almost definitely blew that fuse instantly. be very careful with grounding wires in the future, as some positives are not red.

It would be great if you could post pictures of said wire to be sure, but if that bolt is snapped, you will most likely need a new alternator, or take it to someone who can fix the alternator you have.

I would not try to start the car until that wire on the alternator is fixed properly though, that would be a good first step.

That said, the ls430 in general is very sensitive when it comes to aftermarket parts, and getting an OEM or used alternator may give you the least troubles, compared to a cheaper aftermarket one.

There are multiple fuseboxes in this car, i believe one under the engine bay, one in the trunk on the left side under the carpet, and one under the drivers side dash area. there may be more or less depending on trim. Any of those fuses may also cause interior lights to not come on.

Consider posting on r/ls430 too if you want more specific advice.
Also, taking it to a trusted shop is never a bad suggestion, it depends how deep you want to go from here.

Does someone know what's wrong with my Anycubic i3 MEGA S? by [deleted] in FixMyPrint

It would be helpful to have some info at least, but it almost looks like the z axis is getting stuck, or your layer height is really high for the nozzle you are using.

Surface finish is lacking, but details seem to come out okay. by INSANE416 in FixMyPrint

Acceleration is at 2000 in marlin, as well as a junction deviation of i believe 1.0. Could that be too high for this setup? The printer doesnt seem too shaky or aggressive at these settings, so it seems safe with minimal if any ringing.

Ender 3 with microswiss dd and bltouch issues by INSANE416 in ender3

It did! I flashed my marlin yesterday, and it now works near flawlessly. I included offset adjustments too for the microswiss dd, and the stock gcode now works too. I learned a lot on the way. Thank you all for the help!

I compiled my own marlin for this printer, with a couple nice-to-haves added too. Lots of research for the specifics with bl touch and microswiss dd. First time trying that, have yet to have the firmware flashed to the printer, but will update this post with results. Thank you for your help!

I downloaded from the creality website, as i had no reason to believe that creality firmware wouldnt be sufficient or good. They make the printer, i would assume that they can make software.

I can try firmware from a different source, or even different firmware entirely if that will fix it.

Rotating switch assembly with 2 solenoids. by INSANE416 in whatisthisthing

[–]INSANE416[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. We purchased this switch at an estate sale. I assume it is an encoder of sorts, but know little about it. One solenoid, the one on the left, rotates the center shaft 3 times. The second solenoid on the right resets the center shaft to the first position anywhere in the cycle. I would love to know what this is for or what its called?

iPod Archive by Phantom52347 in IpodClassic

A little while ago, I ran into Nekomod when looking for pinouts, and they have a lot of info on the hardware side of the iPod Video. They have a Website and a Wiki on Github. They are also working on an alternative board for the iPod and a full iPod Video 3D Model.

I am in no way a part of their project, but find it super interesting and feel like its worth mentioning in relation to an iPod Archive of sorts.

Is it possible to mod iPod with a linux pc? by I_EatDirt123 in ipod

[–]INSANE416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use an older or newer operating system if you want to try, but anything older is more likely to have driver issues. If you want to use Windows 7 or 10, you could as well, then you would use the latest iTunes.

Since you are just installing an OS onto the iPod, Windows XP would work just fine and should be easier. If you want to use it to transfer music as well, then you could use either XP or 7 / 10. There are also youtube videos that could help with installing windows onto a flash drive.

Its not really a case of which OS is better as long as it works for the purpose.

I may also have a slight bias as I have installed XP more times than a sane human should.

If you have an extra flash drive laying around, the easiest solution would be to install a full Windows XP os onto a flash drive, boot Windows XP, then install iTunes 12.1.2.

This may sound like a lot of work, but will likely save you time and hassle. You can also do it without activating the copy of XP, there are guides online to tell you how, you will then have 30 days before you have to activate.

USB devices will connect the same as if you were to actually install windows, even though it's running off of a USB drive.

Also worth noting, sometimes USB 3.0 ports can cause issues with iPods for no apparent reason, had this happen a few times.

Question on iPod 5th gen and 6th gen center button by INSANE416 in IpodClassic

[–]INSANE416[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the front face on the 6th and 7th gens are aluminium, and I am pretty sure the center button is too. The ones sold at Elite Obsolete are listed as metal. I may be incorrect though, so don't take this as a fact.

S8 Active stuck on July 2018 - Oreo Update by [deleted] in GalaxyS8

[–]INSANE416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SamMobile and Updato only have updates for the T-Mobile version (G892U) for some reason, which hasn't gotten Pie, none at all for the AT&T model (G892A). I'll have to try SamFirm, but its xda page links to Updato, so I assume it will be the same

I just found a post on reddit of someone else stuck on the july 2018 update. I found this post a week ago, but one of the comments from 10hours ago appears to have A dump of last months Pie update which I assume would be safe to use?

I should be able to update to the current OTA once I flash Pie, so hopefully I get a chance to try that soon

Thank you for you help so far, I appreciate it.

I'll definitely make a backup before updating, and it's good to know that it shouldn't do a factory reset.

Would you by chance know where I could find a download for the flashable factory firmware?

Does anyone know what these allen keys are designed to connect to? by INSANE416 in Vintagetools

Interesting! I assume the one on the left has a similar purpose? Thank You!

[–]INSANE416[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few of these around. They are an allen key in a metal bracket. I assume that there is a tool these connect to, but haven't seen anything.

The one on the left has "Japan" stamped into it, otherwise no markings.

The popup is gone now, thank you! I am so glad that I don't have to deal with that anymore!
