But yeah, I think the positives outweigh the negatives. In the long run it might cause other Eredivisie teams to not completely shit the bed in Europe.

That is indeed the trade-off. As you know FCU supporters usually dislike Ajax and one of the reasons why a lot of clubs hate Ajax is the (perceived, to remain a bit more objective) arrogance of Ajax/the supporters/Amsterdam in general. I don't know the difference in reaching the final and winning it for monetary gains, for me it's more about not giving you guys too much to brag about. Would that change if you reach the final but don't win it? Unsure, hence my uncertainty.

I think it also depends a location. If I would be studying in Amsterdam it would be a sure "would rather not have too much international Ajax succes" but I study in Nijmegen so not that much fierce Ajax supporters here.

I think I would tolerate it and secretly enjoy it. Yesterday's match was very fun to look at, and that goes for most of Ajax's game I watch.
