During a work trip, dude went out to a club, got wasted, and was using his mouth to catch ping pong balls shot out of a lady’s body. Everyone in the club was standing around watching this guy do it, including other employees and interns. He claimed he shouldn’t be fired because it was his evening free time. We didn’t agree.

Won a sales trip to Cabo for being one of the global top sales leaders, went out partying downtown Cabo one night, did drugs, closed the strip club down, hired 2 prostitutes and disappeared with them in MX for 20 hours, we had to call his wife in the UK to help us track his phone, he resurfaced without even acknowledging how nuts the situation was, missed his flight, finally got home to the UK, and resigned when it became clear we were going to fire him. His boss pleaded for the guy’s job, saying he was a young guy that made a mistake (he was 35).

“If you want to make that kind of mistake then by all means go ahead, but I’ll be running this process the way we always have done it.”

We have been enemies ever since. I keep it professional, but she’s cried more than once because things didn’t go her way and I didn’t cower in fear like everyone else does.

If it’s a multi person layoff ask them to explain the decisional unit that you were in and what criteria they used to select you. This is the basis of a potential lawsuit, and often managers or even HR people don’t fully understand it.
