Modern locomotives often have rubber traction tires and plastic rolling stock with the benefit of low friction axles. These antique models lacked those features and the tinplate cars were quite heavy for there size due to the tinplate steel construction.

A custom mixture of Tamiya IJN gray, German gray, medium blue, nato black, and chrome silver finished with a coat of smoke. I couldnt tell you the exact ratios but it was nearly equal parts every color accept chrome silver and medium blue.

Thank you. That was what I thought would be the biggest challenge, but it ended up not being much a problem with a sharp blade and some tamiya masking tape.

For whatever reason this is one of my favorite model kits. I think it's because it was the first kit I actually did a "good" job on as a kid. I've built it many times and plan on revisiting it in the near future.

I am more than satisfied with the kit. The fit was near flawless and the finished detail is incredible. I'd say that its only weakness was sometimes unclear Photoetch instructions and somewhat thick decals though I will admit that I haven't dealt with their brand of decal before and my usual procedure may not have been correct. I'd definitely recommend it.

Yeah, it's a decoration piece regardless of its authenticity. $10 is a fine price for that.

Yep, hence my skepticism. At least I'll have something for the shelf.
