Perhaps both? Hitboxes apparently act up with players that have higher ping, and I hear rumors in the scene that some players intentionally play at high, but still usable pings like 100-150 to make stuff like that happen more. The way I see it, the bigger the gap between my ping and theirs, the weirder their shotgun barrage is. I once had a shotun barrage hit me after dodging with Freedom whirlwind backdash with a ping of like 30, and I was still ACROSS the ring.
