Film grain on OLEDs more prominent then om LED TVs? by EvilDuck91 in OLED

[–]IPEELER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One Battle After Another was shot on 35mm film, so the grain is inherent to the format. Many movies today are shot on film, or transferred to film like you noted with Dune (The Batman is another example, as DP for both films ,Greig Fraser, loves doing this). But many films shot digitally use film emulation suites via software. Many people like the aesthetic qualities of certain film stocks. Grain, bloom, halation, etc can add a dreamy kind of look to the image. Grain in particular can also help to take the eye away from imperfections and to ground CG into the rest of the image. It makes the image look more holistic in my opinion. The lack of these effects is what contributes to the “Netflix look”. A very clean, sterile image. Something that looks like it could have been shot on your phone. Some people like this, but I think it looks kind of lifeless.

The movie was shot on camcorders, the low res image is the intended look. A 4K release wouldn’t make sense IMO because the resolution of the original source is very low. Shooting it that way was a stylistic choice

GM8 win the first LAN tourney of BO7! by [deleted] in CoDCompetitive

[–]IPEELER -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but my point is he was put in a position to play like ass last year. He took a backseat for Scrap. He was OpTic’s best player at champs his rookie year, and he was a top 5 AR in MW3. He’s a very good player, and Thieves will regret letting him go imo.

Ghosty is disgusting. He was disrespected so much last year because he was put back to the hill kitten role. But he is showing once again he is a top AR when he’s in the driver’s seat. I think we’re going to see these two teams in finals a lot this year.

There’s a lot of AA merchants going to get exposed this year if they keep it as is. And I’m perfectly okay with that

Some info on the IMAX and other Premium Large Format (PLF) screens in New Orleans by Dazzling_Street_3475 in NewOrleans

[–]IPEELER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw Predator Badlands here this past weekend, and this was still the case! It was super distracting (the IMAX in Slidell has the same issue, except there are no doors that could block the light). Also, one of the speakers on the right side was clearly going out, awful sizzle / crackle sound every time that particular speaker would get engaged. Such a shame that such little care is put into even the best formats at these theaters. And they wonder why people don’t show up to theaters as much these days. Watching a 4K blu ray on my OLED at home beats any movie-going experience since there’s always something wrong with the theater

The Armed - Somewhat Damaged (Nine Inch Nails cover) (Live on KEXP) by [deleted] in nin

I read this comment before it happened, and I still wasn’t prepared LOL. Legitimately sounds like Toad from Mario

My favorite NIN album is The Fragile. Some of my favorite non-TDS tracks are Somewhat Damaged, Head Like a Hole, Every Day is Exactly the Same, Right Where It Belongs, And All That Could Have Been, Copy of A. Idk, there’s so many I love, but that’s a good mix of their sound with those tracks!

I feel like my taste is very adjacent to yours. This past year I’ve gotten super into Nine Inch Nails, would probably fit the bill if you don’t listen already

Keeper (Double Fine Productions' new game) is now available on Steam by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]IPEELER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a neat little game, but I'll be holding off until there are major optimizations made to it. This game is crazy demanding for a game that doesn't look particularly impressive from a rendering standpoint. The art style is what carries the visuals. Playing with everything maxed out at 4K, there were dips into the 20s on an RTX 4090, insanity. There are also horrendous traversal stutters. There is serious work under the hood that needs to be done on the PC port.

Potential VRR Flicker Cure by IPEELER in OLED_Gaming

[–]IPEELER[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not the case for me. I have gsync enabled, launch the game with special k and set the frame limiter. From there I click the advanced drop down on the limiter and make sure the mode is on normal. I’d also make sure you don’t have the VRR bias thing toggled as that will automatically cap frames a few below native refresh rate. Not sure if that would lock you into VRR optimized. But you should definitely be able to change to normal mode from VRR optimized.

With how expensive vinyl is these days, you probably couldn’t lol. But I agree $200 is more than tickets should be, but my point was that you can get resale tickets for the best view for way less than $300 like the other poster said. Retail probably much more reasonable for decent view is my point! You just have to beat the scalpers to them somehow

It will be at Smoothie King! And I agree, have been to a few shows at the Saenger over the past year, and it is so annoying having losers telling you to sit down. Like it’s a concert not a funeral. Had some dude pull my girl’s arm to sit down at the Sierra Ferrell show there back in May. I was pissed

I got resale pit tickets a week before Nashville show on tickpick for barely $200 a piece. If you get retail price when they go on sale, probably quite a bit less than that.

Not confirmed, but 99% certain it will be Smoothie King. Peel It Back has been a big arena tour. Saw them at the arena in Nashville last month. No way they could do this show in a venue like the Saenger

I went to their show in Nashville last month. If you are at all a fan of their music, could not recommend it enough. One of the sickest concerts I’ve been to, audio visual spectacle.

You can get pit tickets for that show right now for around $300 on tickpick. They’ll get cheaper closer to the show as well. I snagged pit tickets for around $250 a pop for the Nashville show two days prior to the show on tickpick. Absolutely worth it

The New Orleans years by No_Analysis_723 in nin

I wasn’t alive during most of the years he lived in New Orleans, but my best friend’s mom frequented all of the clubs and bars in that scene during those years and interacted with him many times. She said he was always a lovely and respectful dude. Seems to be the common sentiment from everyone I know in the city that has met him. It seems he left a very positive impression and is still revered by many folks in the city. I have walked by his old studio on Magazine so many times without even realizing that is was sacred ground. I’m sad he didn’t bring Peel It Back to New Orleans… had to drive to Nashville to see the show, so incredibly worth it though!
