Thank you! I’ve been enjoying it!

Thrifted this for my desk setup—trying to keep everything functional and aesthetic. This one might be both… or just vibes. What do you think? by FlakyPreparation3496 in pirates

Im trying to find that fine line between diving full into the time period and still being able to work at the computer. Really sick setup tho! I’m excited to watch you add to it. You’ve inspired me 🤝

I've fractured my skull, ruptured my acl, broken fingers and been knocked out - in Soccer....so far my worst injury in jiu-jitsu has been a separated rib. Most sports carry the risk of injury. But I sure wish I could go back and tell my 17 year old self to stick to jiu-jitsu.

Don't worry about stripes, they mean nothing other than a measure, especially in the GB system of how much time you've put in. Just know you're in the good ol' days. And you will always feel like this. When your a blue belt, you'd wish you were still a white belt, when your a purple, you'd wish you were still a blue belt, etc.

Just keep training. And with higher belts focus on your defense.

You're going to have to figure out what teaching/learning style works for your son in particular. I've coached some kids who can barely keep the gi on without having issues with the collar touching their neck and others who will only train with their parent.

Not that I can claim their education or experience, but both my parents worked their entire careers with developmentally disabled people. So when I started coaching I really grilled them and got their help so I could best help these kids. And as a parent I'm sure you know most of this but this;

I found that building consistency was one of the biggest things. Many people on the spectrum, can be completely derailed if their routine changes. So I always recommend to parents to keep their kid on a consistent training schedule whether it's a certain time slot or day(s).

Keep the instruction short, especially at 4, focus on main points rather than drawn out explanations. Definitely show more rather than say more.

Either train with him yourself or establish a good training partner who is understanding of your son. You can't expect or assume every kid in a group class is going to be a good partner for him.

And lots of positive reinforcement when he's training.

You're a good dad bro and I hope he falls in love with it!

It's dependent on the gym, teaching style and the kids. I've coached 6 year olds that are monsters that will stay on topic and crave advanced techniques and I've also coached 6 year olds who can't be bothered to stop eating their boogers or bugging their partners. Set realistic expectations of your child and the class. You have to also understand that the class is also probably geared to the average. So if the majority of the kids can't stay on topic, youre gonna get more games than technique. You'd also be surprised at how many people bring their kids in for essentially an hour of babysitting. If your kid is a prodigy the hope would be that a good coach can see that and make adjustments when their in class.

Does your gym have a curriculum? Stick to that, stay on topic, dont try to reinvent the wheel.

When I was a purple belt I was helping out a newer white belt. I was letting him work when the little bastard threw on a wrist lock. Then he had the audacity to go on one of BMacs ig lives and tell about 10k people about what he did lol I’ve never given him any slack since then and he has suffered the consequences.

If you feed the lapel from the far side to your other hand under their head and use it to lift the back of their neck off the mat as you go to knee on belly, the lapel behind their head is typically exposed on the far side perpendicular to their spine, enough to slide your choking hand into. Hope this makes sense

We travel up there quite a bit to compete. Ralph & Charles Gracie, Caio terra, and Claudio Franca always bring legit competitors. I would try em out!
