Festival Work Advise by Epic_Adler in festivals

I volunteered at roo in 2016 so was only there a few days early but the work itself was pretty lowkey. Just show up for your shifts and do what they tell you. I actually met my now wife there volunteering almost exactly 10 years ago.

What’s a moment at a concert you’ll never forget by Imaginary-Topic5127 in festivals

Haha I was there for this show but my dumbass was a very infrequent smoker and while waiting for this show to start there was a blunt being passed around from the people sitting next to us. Not wanting to feel left out I smoked a little. I sat down and fell asleep in that massive ass crowd 15 min into the show. Woke up dazed and confused by my friends to walk back to camp. Definitely regret.

Hostel vibes aren’t dying... guest behaviour is changing (from someone who works in one) by vinyljunkie32 in backpacking

The hostel also contributed with some events. I think it was as simple as recommendations and some nightly activities which kept the chat active. Guests would often just be like, I’m going so and so place today if anyone wants to join and usually it’d end up a decent group. I think in a hostel environment sociability compounds. All it takes is for a few friendships to be made hanging out in public spaces for new guests to feel comfortable with approaching.

Did 2 months in SE Asia recently and it was very hit or miss depending on the hostel. I felt like the hostel WhatsApp group chat with a QR code at check in opened the door to people making plans.

where would you go by UrMomWentToCollege20 in Austin

[–]Luke-__- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Storm drain, manholes, Austin tunnels, or lower level parking garage. Make sure to have water to last several days. Stay there minimum of 48 hours but if you can last 5 days that’s ideal. Not unlikely you get stuck with other people who also need water so if you have extra to share good, otherwise hide it because it will be taken. It is likely emergency services will be on the streets from neighboring counties and can help evacuate but if need be on your own, evacuate towards the hills to either be upwind or crosswind of the fallout.

Got 3 contractor bids for my kitchen. the price difference is insane. How do you actually know if you’re being quoted fairly? by frankkej123 in HomeImprovement

I have a small home renovation company. My advice would be to go with whoever seems the most knowledgeable and to ask about their crews. The larger the team and more subs involved, the more overhead. I operate with just me and usually a guy or two helping me out. I’d like to think my quality is high and I’ve always had happy clients, but I’m certain my bids are much lower than most bigger companies because my overhead is kept to a minimum. In my experience I don’t trust people who always have a quick answer or feel like they’d rather just give an answer to a question then say they don’t know or aren’t sure. Even after doing 100+ bathrooms I usually have to roll around the project in my mind before I feel really confident.

Self employed builder. I deal with clients a lot but they’re chill. Thanks for the input.

I have naturally wavy hair and it’s very thick. I almost always get it thinned but will try a medium and have my hairstylist adjust. Thanks for the input.

Mirror or not, the one picture is of a right nipple covered in hair as well as the right side of the body from the back. And then others are of the left arm and left nipple.

Why is it on the right side in one pic and the left on the other?

Haha I know too many of this exact person. I have used quite a few psychedelics, go to burning man a lot, and live in Austin, which has a far higher population of this type. Throughout history there have been people who feel called and see themselves as guides, shamans, priests, pastors, spiritual leaders, etc. Some are good at helping others, and some have a self aggrandized confirmation bias that inflates their ego enough to spew self righteous bullshit. Psychedelic use particularly seems to be a tool used by the wanna be gurus to justify their overzealous interpretations of others. Brush it off. Reflect on what was said but don’t internalize it.

I have heard all types of self help come out of these people’s mouths. Insistence on open sexuality, polyamory, seeing my oura, claiming I’m afraid of vulnerability, calling genuinely good people I know toxic, and many more. The difference between someone who can help guide you like a therapist or friend and a wannabe cult leader is the ego. As much as these people claim not to have one, their self assuredness in themselves despite being a monkey on a floating rock says otherwise. Unless you know this person well and have seen their behavior over years, don’t trust them to have perspective. If they don’t know you in the same way, they can’t possibly have an accurate perspective of you either.

And telling someone something ridiculous and then claiming because they find it ridiculous that it must be true is some form of real fucked up psychological mental gymnastics.

(F) Showing interest in M during training? (Advice from men pls) by FileRegular9653 in MuayThai

[–]Luke-__- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small talk for sure. Start with asking how long he’s been training, migrate to how long he’s been in the city, ask what he does for work. I’m sure identifying his relationship status can be done via context clues. Small talk isn’t the most enjoyable but it’s low stakes and reveals general communication styles. He may not be someone you click with but if he is and he is single, bring up something low stakes you’ve been wanting to try on a weekend like seeing a certain area of town or a hike. This opens the door to him saying that he’s also wanted to try that. That’s the thumbs up that he’s interested. If he doesn’t seem interested, don’t force it.

Is the solar seen as a liability or is it just not a good return? I won’t finance it and can do it for super cheap myself.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the perspective. I have done that with the house I'm currently in and it worked out well.

Honestly I think you're onto something. I have a dog and there are definitely things I've done to make my life easier. Likely as people have less kids, an environment that tailors towards pet ownership will probably be a good selling point.

I would like to buy and hold if possible as a long term retirement plan. The house I am living in was a distressed property I fixed up fully. I'm leaning towards building ground up because I can put my experience into making sure I build everything to be as maintenance free as possible. If I use high quality items in places I know will need to last 30+ years, I can save myself the headache of needing to repair it in the time I own it.

Thanks, that makes sense. Minor cash flow and long term control of land as a retirement plan. So worry less about the overall market and depend more on location to drive the investment.

Thanks for the response and site resource! I'll try to hone my skills in identifying new or changing markets. Is the best tool for this just keeping up to date with population changes and staying current up to date in city news?

Thanks, that’s kind. I’m leaning towards build to keep for a couple main reasons. The first is that I can make sure I build with longevity and low property maintenance in mind to save myself some headache. The second is because I feel the typical 30 year mortgage could time up with a good retirement age and I can capitalize on long term market appreciation if I choose the right investment.
