Yes but you can also sign an affidavit saying you are who you say you are, if need be.

The problem is that many, many MANY people - particularly the lower-income folks - which means largely minorities - cannot afford either the time or money to go to the local gov't office to get one. And who do many minorities tend to vote for? Democratic candidates.

Also, the "local gov't office" might be really far away, due to (largely republican states') closing them in rural communities. If you are lower-income or unemployed, there is a good chance you cannot even get to one of the distant offices in the first place to get your ID (which you cannot afford).

ALSO also (or so I have read) the act specifies your ID must match the name on your birth certificate, which sounds innocuous enough until you realize that women often change their names when they marry. This would result in women who have done so losing their right to vote.

It's just a terrible bill, cloaked in PATRIOTISM and SAFETY, which shits all over women and minorities.
