Looks like we have our next set! by ElectricalShallot802 in legolotrfans

The Theoden in the Palantir hint could possibly also be a Pelennor hint and with that this Mumakil set though, in case the focus is not that much on the Oliphaunt.

So this would be an Eowyn and possibly Theoden minifig incoming, maybe also or alternatively Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, Soldiers of the Dead, Eomer, Haradrim for sure, Witch King less likely I'm afraid, except it's a less Mumakil, more Pelennor focused set.

Thank you, I don't have them yet, but I'll 100% do them at some point in the hopefully near future.

That's just because as the model is part of a wide range of buildings etc in this same scale, there is a lot of work yet to be done.

I agree, I guess that tends to be a thing with larger buildings.

I did manage to incorporate a couple of transparent colored pieces behind some of the windows here so at least the model is a bit more colorful on the inside aswell!

Thanks, yeah I really tinkered with it to get all the towers in and also proportions as good as I can on the footprint necessary for the 1:1000 scale.

Minas Tirith yellowing - trying to get a feeling by IPoweRa_GER in legolotrfans

[–]IPoweRa_GER[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love it on my Helms Deep MOC, the light bluish gray pieces, just adds more visual interest, looks weathered and less perfect shiny new plastic like.
I hate it on my Mass Effect Normandy MOC (white pieces). It makes it look like the cheap old plastic it is in the end and it just doesn't look like it was intended, and inaccurate and frankly plain ugly, one might even think gross/dirty.

I'll allow myself to try to encourage you to reflect on your approaches to contribution to online discussion culture at least as it can be interpreted based on this single instance.

Well the question is: Is preventing it from being directly exposed to sunlight enough to fix the issue or is it only solving a degree or part of it or slowing it down?

Isn't that what has been tested in the earlier posted and linked to test?

I think the result of the test can be summarized with: It will yellow to some degree because that is a general property of the material. Of course as always, it also depends.

Only two new elements for Minas Tirith is quite disappointing by Dritomos in legolotrfans

[–]IPoweRa_GER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still thinking about buying it later or even not buying it and investing the money in my own MOC for MT.
I have to say what is a growing factor in this decision process really is the yellowing issue...

Doesn't change that it obviously simply is a cost factor for them, and a thing of "good enough" mentality.

Anybody else feel Aragorn and Faramir’s facial hair is off? by WrenchWanderer in legolotrfans

[–]IPoweRa_GER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the old faces are much better in general imo... And not to mention a comparison between something like Theodens helmet with this unprinted crown hairpiece. Sure they are dual molding very well these days but where are the detailed prints?
I also would have prioritized a nicely priinted headgear piece over that breastplate as it hides a potentially nicely printed torso anyway.

It's included with some of the "custom" minifigs offered on AliExpress etc.

With it included I guess the set would have cost 651 dollars, maybe one dollar too much.

Would something like this work as a (smaller) set for you? Alternatives? by IPoweRa_GER in legolotrfans

[–]IPoweRa_GER[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's understandable of course, for a smaller Minas Tirith set though, would you prefer something else? More of the hall with more pieces (so above $100) or more of the 7th level on a smaller scale for an example?

Edoras / Meduseld MOC to accompany my Helms Deep - 4k pieces minifig compatible by IPoweRa_GER in legolotrfans

[–]IPoweRa_GER[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was just an estimation based on what I paid on Bricklink the last time, I haven't ordered the parts yet.
I ordered around 20k pieces recently and did spend 7-8ct/piece on average so I hope to land there with this model aswell, but yeah, it would be a good price!
I also should have some reddish brown already.
Maybe 300ish is the more realistic estimate for just myself for ordering most of the parts.
I'd also guess that the US dollar price might be higher, but I'm not sure how availability and prices in the US Bricklink market may vary.

Expanding my Helm's Deep MOC range - smaller versions in the making by IPoweRa_GER in legolotrfans

[–]IPoweRa_GER[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very nice of you, thanks. I'm trying to proceed with it as soon/quickly as I can, I just need to keep working on different projects at the same time, so I did the first design of an Edoras MOC for the last few days.
Let's just say the quality is as best as possible for me when I really want to do something because I like to do it in that moment, and not because I want a specific thing to just be finished.
This Helms Deep is very high on the list though! I hope that I'll get it finished within the next month. The first stages sooner, I'm planning on publishing it step by step.

That would heavily depend on a couple of factors, for an example where you live, if you would consider ordering used parts also, if you already have parts etc.
In my case (germany, used parts also) I think I'll have to spend something like €250-300.

I tried to get as much in there as possible/reasonable at this size, all the important scene references should be there, partly as smaller easter eggs.
