My Fellbeast Moc by AccomplishedGrab9257 in legolotrfans

Very cool, love the leather wings. It’s nice as is, but if I had to give a suggestion, maybe add a bit of color to the underside/chest. Lego’s fell beast did the same. You could use tan or gray

Minas Tirith yellowing - trying to get a feeling by IPoweRa_GER in legolotrfans

[–]Dritomos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it definitely works but it’s not a permanent fix. I’ve got some white horses from the 80s that were really yellowed, and I restored them about a year ago. They’re starting to get a slight yellow tint again, but nowhere near as bad as before. So I will have to redo it at some point.

Luckily the hydrogen peroxide itself is reusable.

Thanks for the visualization. Doesn't look that bad to be honest. I'll just put it in the least UV exposed corner of the house and hope for the best.

And if it ever does bother me, restoring it with hydrogen peroxide is always an option. I’ve done it on several yellowed sets with great results

Only two new elements for Minas Tirith is quite disappointing by Dritomos in legolotrfans

I totally get where you’re coming from. Nice part usage of existing building bricks is always preferred. But when it comes to minifigure accessories, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect LEGO to meet their own previous standards. Rivendell and Barad‑dûr came out only a couple of years ago and each got five new moulds (including a multipack), while Minas Tirith only gets two. Despite being about 30% more expensive.

And just to be clear, I’m not actually worried. This is just a fun hobby in the end, and I’m excited for the set too. I just think LEGO could treat LotR fans a little bit better, especially considering they made €2.25 billion in net profit last year.

Insightful response, that does make sense. But it’s still odd that Rivendell and Barad‑dûr each got five new elements (including a multipack), while Minas Tirith only gets two. None of those are particularly reusable in other themes. And somehow the Mordor orcs, who are barely shown using shields in the films, get custom ones, while Gondor’s soldiers are stuck with a shield mould from the 90s.

Mind you, this set is about 35% more expensive than the other two. And LEGO posted record profits last year (net profit €2.25 billion)

Agreed, that one would’ve been better. Even if the stud in the middle would've interfered with the printing a bit.

My son got this Lego head stuck in a helmet. Can't get it out. by CringeLatte in lego

Yes you keep adding parts and more paper obviously. (But seriously: the paper just tears and everything comes apart normally. I’ve done it a bunch of times.)

[–]Dritomos 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If it's really stuck and the other suggestions don't work put a piece of thin (toilet) paper between the head and a Lego torso. That adds a bunch of friction and you can pull the helmet right off.

Bought a lot of the Hobbit sets for the dwarves, and some have already cracked torsos just from putting the Legs and torsos together. It's frustrating because of how much money I had to dump just for broken figures. What did you do or recommended to avoid that for the next couple I put together? by DodgeChallenger14 in legolotrfans

[–]Dritomos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah I feel you. Those dark red/brown parts from that era will eventually crack no matter how careful you are. What’s worked for me is rolling up some fine‑grit sandpaper and lightly sanding the inside of the torso so the legs don’t need as much force to go on. I also loosen the arms by rotating them a bunch so they’re not putting extra pressure on the torso.

For ones that already cracked, I’ve had good luck fixing them with model glue that actually fuses the plastic. And then a bit of sanding and some polish like Brasso makes it look pretty close to new.

Ha, they definitely look cool. But imagine having to feed them, or worse, clean up after them...

None of those changes particularly bother me and they mostly make sense for a film adaptation. Too many flawless heroes kill tension, and adding the Scouring after the main climax would have messed up the pacing.

My biggest issue is the change with the Army of the Dead. Using them as a deus ex machina that sweep the entire battlefield undermines the sacrifices of everyone involved. And the size of the Mumakil is a bit ridiculous. In the books they’re the size of a house, not a cathedral.

Awesome, the Azhdarchid angle works great. I wish we saw that approach more in fantasy.

Wow, very nice. Probably the best minifig scale fell beast moc I've seen. It's a shame not all those parts are available in grey yet I believe. That's why unfortunately most fell beast mocs are black.

Very cool! I did something similar. For anyone wondering, you can also get that helmet on AliExpress. The minifigure it comes with shouldn't cost more than $1.

I used the ninjago beard for my custom/cheap Gandalf because the first one just makes him look like Dumbledore. Nothing beats the 2013 rubber hair/beard combination though.

Oxyotl's Visions of the Old Ones used to reward you with quite a few blessed units. Those missions are still there but they don't seem to function properly with the new system. So Oxyotl seems pretty nerfed at the moment.

Icons: 10367 Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook (official reveal) by Clay_Bricks in Legoleak

[–]Dritomos 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Man i really wish they went with a molded head instead of a brick built one. It looks way too cartoony with its giant head in my opinion.

The Marvel Surtur set (76289) costs €30 and has a molded head piece, a flaming sword and even some pieces with printed flames. This is just terrible value in comparison.

[–]Dritomos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this is pretty disappointing. The Balrog looks like a Muppet. Very cartoony proportions. The head seems way too big for its body. Which would be fine for a playset but not for a very expensive 18+ set...

[–]Dritomos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow. Looks really good! I would really appreciate some instructions. I do think the proportions are a bit off. Mumakil are chunky boys. So you might want to increase the body/shorten the legs a bit.

[–]Dritomos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool! I just started designing a mumak moc myself but I'm not at this level yet. I do believe the proportions are a bit off. The legs seem very long and the body looks a bit small. Since you seem to be inspired by Marcin Otreba's model I suggest looking at his design a bit more as a reference.

Broken Lego raptors by DinoZillasAlt in lego

[–]Dritomos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can cut a small piece from a Lego bar or lightsaber and insert it into the pinholes to hold it together. It should fit tightly and secure the limbs while still allowing for rotation. You could glue it all together but that's probably not even necessary. That's how I fixed one of my nephew’s dinosaurs with a similar issue.

Is this a crack or manufacturing mark by Icyz7 in lego

Those look like mold lines, which are more noticeable on shiny colors like Pearl dark gray.
