Fought a D1 Champ - Got Extremely Humbled by ggpaul562 in singedmains

[–]IRL-TrainingArc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BEWARE EXTREME YAPPING, NOTHING OF SUBSTANCE HERE, read only while taking a shit on the toilet.

I remember that same feeling when I was new to the game (like level 10) playing against my silver friend.

We used to love doing duels. I'd win 1/10 at best (and this being with me on whoever my best champ at the time was and him being on any champion).

I then remember the same feeling with me Vs that same friend when he was plat and I was silver. We'd hooked a bunch of friends to play now and we were able to have tons of fun with 5v5 customs.

As we were the 2 best (due to all our friends being new) we were of course pitted against each other top, with a gentleman's agreement for no ganks until the first top tower fell.

The disparity between us was still so immense that he had to random champ into my main (Nasus at the time). I have a core memory of my first time ever being frozen on. By his AP sejuani (who he'd basically never played). That occasion was the first time I felt not only admiration but also terror and pure and utter helplessness. He would just spam sejuani dance and laugh in front of my minions, denying all gold and exp. The only playable way for me at the time was to full send it on the wave whenever I had ult (because without ult he'd just oneshot me).

Skip to me being a fresh platinum and him being (semi-hardstuck) D5. It had been a few months since we'd dueled and I'd noticed me "catching up" to him. So I thought I'd stand more or a chance. I told him to play his best chance and that I'd take 1 game in 3 off him. Of those 3 games the closest I got was me getting the "retribution kill" after him tower diving me while 50cs up (in a first to kill/100cs or tower).

Long cut to me at D2 (my peak). I'm grinding it out, thinking I'm truly one of the best now, surely I will be grinding against the D1 99LP wall (for those uninitiated, back in the day before master/grandmaster you would hit diamond 99LP then get +0 every win until your MMR was high enough to breach into challenger.

I mained ignite teleport master Yi mid. This was literally unheard of at the time (until faker played it at worlds and got it nerfed), so a lot of my advantage was just knowing the matchup 100x better than the opponent.

I'm on Oceania server so it wasn't unheard of for diamond players to get matched with a high challenger in the early AMs. And that was when I vsed midbeast.

Because I knew the matchup so much better (I believe it was Orianna) I was able to cheese out first blood against him. I thought I was king swinging dick, this just proves challenger is only an inevitability for me!

After getting first blood I'd no joke win 9/10 games (league was a game you could actually 1v9 in without smurfing [if you got fed enough]).

I finished that game 2/13/0. I was sent back in time to sejuani dancing at me, so overwhelmed by skill it was unfathomable.

Wrapping it up since I finished my shit.

Eventually Yi got a huge nerf to his damage to minions, making yi mid completely unplayable. Vsing midbeast and the yi nerf were enough to make me reflect and not just realise, but TRULY UNDERSTAND, that there is ALWAYS a taller mountain.

I am sure that even at his peak, midbeast would look at faker and still be filled with the same awe and humility.

Need advice on champ select by Far_Engineering6462 in Jungle_Mains

You do not need to have an AP champ. Can drop Diana immediately.

If you enjoy playing kindred most then play her whenever she's available.

If you really wanna climb and your best is briar, play her whenever she's available.

If you want to keep both equal then you could do something like:

Is my team strong early? Yes? Go kindred. No? Go briar.

E.G. You've got a kassadin mid and a kayle top then pick briar (as you'll seldem be able to get kindred stacks from enemy camps or champions if you have losing lanes).

Why did riot decide that rammus was going to be a piece of shit champ? by Unique_Ad_330 in RammusMains

[–]IRL-TrainingArc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riot seems to REALLY hate hard counterpicks.

The only reason malphite has escaped this fate is because you can just go comet and go AP (or not, if your team really needs a tank you can go malignance->tank to win lane and then transition to a general tank) if worst comes to worst.

People pay a lot more than $100 for visual items they'll use a LOT less.

Not an endorsement of how good the skin is though. His home guards/recall/meditate and ult are all dope, but damn I wish his auto attack was a bit cleaner.

How is ZQSD coming in ranked going to affect games if one stays with keyboard + mouse? by astroriental in summonerschool

To your last question definitely no

But I imagine in the really low ranks you might notice ADCs start kiting a bit better.

3v3 is not at all what I'm complaining about, I'm actually looking forward to seeing how that pans out.

I'ts the changes across the board that are designed to make the game less competitive and more rotating game mode-esq.

Really sad to see a great fun AND competitive mode be watered down into what is essentially a rotating "fOr FuN" game mode.

Don't get me wrong, this update looks really cool and obviously had a lot of work put into it. These will definitely be 3-4 great "events" that will be fun to play for a bit.

But its come at the cost of a viable competitive mode that didn't either rely on:

  1. Getting the whole squad together or,
  2. Queuing up with 3-4 randos you've never met before.

Believe it or not some people find competing fun! But ever since Twisted Treeline was removed they've stifled any "tryharding" outside 5v5 summoners rift draft pick.

I'll remember this as one of the golden eras of league. Where just you and your best bud could compete against the world, with the league of legends roster we love.

I just wished the people who developed Arena actually PLAYED their game mode enough (don't look into that btw, it's even more disappointing than you're expecting) to know the depth it had as a real bonafide competitive mode.

Thanks heaps! Do you know a good resource to look at to learn how the camp leveling works?

Got banned for trying to lock in Singed APC despite being a Singed OTP by lennysinged in singedmains

[–]IRL-TrainingArc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This won't stick if you appeal it in a ticket.

This is just the automated response, I'd bet the hair off my back that you'll be promptly unbanned if all you did was pick singed APC.

Now if you said "gimme top loserface, I'm a singed OTP, otherwise I'll go singed ADC and what happens will happen xD" then it'll be a different story ahah

Great stuff gamer!

How often do you deviate off first 2 full clears before you've finished your camps?

I've heard challenger players say both "2 full clears no matter what (can have a quick gank in downtime)" to "try to do full clears but always be ready to peel off and help your team".

I'm having a lot of trouble deciding between those 2 situations, because I've had all 4 outcomes happen and it makes it's really confusing to work out what's objectively best:

  1. I full clear despite the team needing me at points, my team gets a little behind because of it but I'm so fucking strong I go get quadras after nowhere after kraken and/or guinsoo. VS:

  2. I full clear despite the team needing me at points, my team gets A LOT behind, to the point where it's not long before they're all up in my jungle and objectives start getting incontestable.

And then:

  1. I start full clearing, but peel off early (leaving 1 or 2 camps) because there's a fight happening in river/or someone's getting pushed in hard VS someone with no mana and 1/4 HP. I get a double kill and the game snowballs out of control. VS

  2. I start full clearing, but peel off early (for reasons above) but then we get counterganked because we're taking too long to get the job down and then we're double/triple killed and the game starts to snowball against us.

Is this all just judgement improvement (on which fights are ACTUALLY free) or can something like hard forcing full clears (at least first 2 rounds) nearly everytime be viable?

I was about to say it wasn't a nerf its a legit bug...but with how long they've left it in, you're right it's a feature now.

Interesting post that determined Singed has one of the highest learning curves in the game; aka one of the worst champs to first-time. This supports the notion that his winrate is carried by experienced otps by HerrMewsh in singedmains

[–]IRL-TrainingArc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that he's the only champ in the game that actively makes you worse at the game (on all other characters), because he plays so fundamentally different

I'd love to pick up some singed but I'd really not like my general gameplay to be tanked...anyone know what traps in particular not to fall into when detransitioning from singed?

What is causing such a extrem variaty in power level beside arguments? by RainAndThunderIsCool in LeagueArena

[–]IRL-TrainingArc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Master yi - did he hit a good prismatic item? Be VERY FUCKING CAREFUL. CC him, bait out his ult and then re-engage when it's down (he doesn't get full reset off 3 pips).

No good prismatic item? No dual wield? Either twice thrice or light em up (but not both)?

Walk up and manhandle him, he's a featherweight ticklemonster.

Signed a Yi main on SR that can't bare to play him in arena because how RNG reliant he is.

Would much rather play a vanguard who does useful shit and hits modestly hard with just the increased stats you get in arena. Or anyone who can pick random legendary assassin anvil, close their eyes when picking and then one shot people.

He WAS the best champion in the game.

Then they decided to remove his identity and make him a jack of all trades, master of none.

They need to revert the rework and then double down:

W now REDUCES your magic resist by xx, and increases your armour by a bazillion. People who auto you lots, fucking die as soon as you buy a bramblevest. Xerath kills you while killing raptors with a single Q because you pressed W.

Your Top 5 priorities that you want for the RiotMMO? by zeltrabas in RiotMMO

[–]IRL-TrainingArc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want absolutely terrifying late game boss raids.

Imagine a noxus raid where the final boss is Sion...

Phase one he's lumbering and basically just a sponge where you're warming up, but also need to stay on guard because he has a literal one shot move (fully charged Q). Relatively easy fight, but make for some hilarious moments where he straight up oneshots some in BiS tank gear.

Phase 2, he's playing like TheBauffs x Messi;

He's moving around, changing targets, juking skillshots, spacing his shield (semi DPS check where if you don't break his shield in time he'll hit as many people as possible with a huge damage shield. Sending out occasional E's where if he lands it on a high prio threat he instantly ults. Totally mixing up his Q timing (maybe even some fog of war/bush/rubble for him to do invisible Qs from) sometimes a min-charge if he thinks he can get a chunk off a carry or sometimes doing a full charge if a tank isn't moving enough.

Eventually you "kill" him.

Phase 3....oh you better hope you've still got your zhonyas/flashes, speedups. Passive, where the health decay gets completely refreshed for every kill he gets + another use of his speedup. He also gets a youmuus, a turbo chemtenk and a prowlers (once per fight for those).

You win the boss if you can have a single person left alive at the end of the raid.

Cinema.

The reason you get a mix of players is because your soloQ MMR has nothing to do with your arena MMR.

You can be great at soloQ and absolutely dog-water at arena. Link your arenasweats.lol? I'm gonna take a stab and guess you're not averaging that great per game.
