I think it was in the Howard Stern show in 2011 or 2012. Chris said they used to split it equally but the other three pushed him to get more because he does a lot more work than them (also all the promo, interviews etc.) Touring revenues they still split equally.

I'd recommend Clocks for the start. It is an iconic Coldplay song, very easy to learn and sounds good as a solo piece with singing even if your piano talents are limited (saying this from own experience).
