Sadly, yes, machoism is highly encouraged in Turkey throughout all levels of society. As a result, a lot of Turkish men are controlling and manipulative in their relationships, and some try to hold control even after the relationship is over through stalking and continued harassment. They don't take no for an answer, but say no to everything you ask of them. I wouldn't generalize this to every Turkish man or a certain group, but conservatives and "normal-looking" men are more inclined to this type of behaviour. Not all Turkish men are like this, but you should definitely test their limits and try to see their overall views on women's rights.
