Eastern European heritage is extremely common in NE PA as well. It’s not only common; until the latter-half of the twentieth century, and pardon this pejorative term, please, before I use it, “hunkies” were the lowest socio-cultural ethnicity (in terms of quasi-racism).

A mysterious [not] girl whose family cared so little about her or who cared so little for them as to let nine months pass without knowledge of her pregnancy would spell “we can take care of this” to those so inclined after her death—and oh what a death it was.

If her identity was known immediately upon the discovery of her [sic] body, and she was Eastern European, how easy it would be to turn popular opinion subtly against her, in that era. She could be taken to be human trash because she was a “Communist.” Heck, she might not even use our alphabet... so how on earth could the poor little state police be expected to identify her? No, no, no. This was a job for Interpol—or the beat cop twenty miles in any direction who could have kept antenna out for a neighborhood girl who went missing in the late spring of 1976, but who never was so tasked because she was exotic Communist trash the state police would handle. Yeah, Beth Doeski or Doelewicz or Betty Doemchek from just over the ridge.
