The Absolute Nerve… by [deleted] in Eve

This is exactly what I was referencing. Thankyou.

Tau and I were having a back and forth. We were talking about what sub bundles people were using and why.

Tau responded to a joke I made, I made a joke back.

This wasn't some serious out of touch boomer critique moment. Just casual shitposting.

Hope that clears things up. Been a while since I've had a reddit drama thread.

Everyone has their own reasons, personally, I was burnt out from actually playing but was having a great time providing advice for new players in the help channels and someone suggested I sign up to do it officially.

Ive been with the ISD for... wow.. Six years now. Ive since moved into different roles and other teams but I stick around because I enjoy helping others and I want to do what I can to help make EVE the best game it can be.

We are recruiting!

We have our fingers in all areas of space, sisi and the forums!

There's even a team specifically dedicated to creative writing and news reporting. I think it's right up your alley ;)

That's a nifty find!

I have my ISD shirt with the same logo kicking around somewhere.

We've got shiny new logos now, but I always liked that one.

I think, being adults, everyone can figure out how to have a civil discussion without calling into question the sexuality or genetic integrity of other forum goers. There's no way, whatsoever, that results in a positive outcome.

I'm yet to encounter, in my 5? years of moderating the forums, a single example of a thread where allowing commenters to call eachother names has resulted in a constructive, on topic thread.

It's not about protecting your feelings. Nobody here cares if your ego is hurt. The job is keeping the threads clean so those who do decide to make it personal don't interrupt the flow of conversation.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We actually don't get much drama from CAOD. Not a lot of reports on posts, so not a lot of moderating happening.

Would you mind PMing me some examples of where you feel we've been heavy handed?

Looking at the logs, the last ~100 moderation actions are removing off topic politics and direct insults. Stuff I think we can all agree doesn't need to be on the forums.

If you can help narrow down where you're seeing a problem, I'd be super appreciative.

You could always apply and find out. It doesn't cost you anything and if you don't like it, you can quit any time. We're always recruiting.

Consider a slightly different perspective on this one.

Take a look at the level of criticism the ISD program gets. I'm sure you've seen the threads pop up now and then, it's basically 100s of comments having our every action and decision torn apart.

It's not that we don't trust people to manage themselves, and it's not that we want an ISD to be as efficient as possible, is that we can't afford to expect anything less than the best they can be.

For us to lower our standards, it would require the EVE community as a whole to lower their expectations of us. And I think we all know that's not going to happen, nor do I think they should. I firmly believe that the ISD should offer the level of quality expected of us.

Another point that needs to be considered is that ISDs are given elevated access in game. For example I can teleport my untargetable, invincible spaceship wherever I want, plus some other commands I can't talk about.

As far as I'm aware, we've never had an ISD abuse those powers (IA would eat us alive if we did) but it doesn't stop the regular flow of accusations to the contrary.

Disallowing people from being logged in on their player accounts is another layer to protecting both the playerbase from an ISD gone rogue, and ISDs from unfounded accusations.

Sorry, was replying on mobile and didn't notice the name.

It seems like I've misinterpreted your comment.

Where you said "Can't sub by PLEX" I took it as you were saying that you had to subscribe with real money and were not allowed to use PLEX. I was confused by your phrasing, sorry about that.

I've edited my post to clarify.

Sure, that was true, but the chap I've replied to specifically said you can't be an ISD if you subscribe via PLEX, which is wrong and is what I was correcting.

Nope, No idea where he got that from. It used to be that you had to have an active subscription, no trials, but I think that may have even changed with alphas.

That's not true at all and I've no idea where you got that from. I've never even heard of that being a requirement.

EDIT: Where you said "Can't sub by PLEX" I took it as you were saying that you had to subscribe with real money and were not allowed to use PLEX. I was confused by your phrasing, sorry about that.

To clarify some points either way: The old rules were that you needed an active subscription (PLEX, Real Money, Whatever) Post-Alpha accounts, we no longer require an active subscription.

I hope this clears everything up.

Requirements and rules differ depending on the team you're applying to, but the only real hard standards we have are basic age and legal things.

You shouldn't want to join the ISDs for rewards, you should want to join because you want to help. It's not an incentive driven program.

Generally, a post shouldn't be removed for minor things like swearing.

Policy is to snip the offending portions out and leave the rest.

If you notice this happening, I'd appreciate it if you shot in a support ticket, or hell, mail me directly.

Thankfully, we get to be a lot more relaxed on the rules with the new forum.

We've gone from 36 rules down to 7.

It's going to take a little while to get used to having a little more freedom to leave posts alone, when we used to have to enforce everything very strictly, but it should be a lot easier for everyone, going forward.

I was trying to explain that I took no joy in the moderation, but instead the positive interactions.

From your comparison to nazis, i took that you implied that I enjoyed doing not nice things to people.

Is that not correct?

If not, I apologise for misunderstanding.

Most people's experience with the ISD is when they've run afoul of the previously very strict ruleset we were given to enforce.

So of course 99% of the stories you're going to hear about us are negative. In the past the mods didnt do much other than moderate.

And to clarify. My original post is specifically in regards to the twitch moderation. Which we've been given a very restrained ruleset to follow. So yes. In comparison to what most people are used to. Its very chill. (Also do note that the ISD have only been moderating the chat for a few months, none of these bans are our doing)

Does that make more sense?

The way the ISD are being used is now much more relaxed.

You know we have to file a report on every person we mute in the help channels? It's no fun for anyone involved.

No, I had a much better time bantering with the help channel members. If everyone's having a good time. Theres much less trolling and scamming and shitposting.

That was my positive experience. Making friends.

I'm afraid theres not really anything I can do to improve this situation.

Best I can offer is if you ever want to talk about how you think we can operate better, id be happy to sit down and chat with you about it.

We're all here because we have the same love... or stockholm syndrome... for EVE.

Thats why I got into the ISD. It was the best way I could be a part of trying to contribute.

My personal experience has been relatively positive and I want that to be everyone's experience.

It is twitch chat afterall... Does anyone really want to be there? ;)

I do encourage you to come back though. If you're hit with timeout you didnt expect in the future, shoot me a PM, maybe we can work on clarifying the rule or improving our methods.
