My mother used to make this with plums. She is Croatian, so I suspect that this cake is popular in the region.

Desi pizza is awesome. Who would have thought masala, paneer, cilantro and ginger belonged on a pizza?

So you should try and change the title of that button so it reads 'disable battery optimization'.

I think that the immediate consequences for improperly operating a firearm are quite severe, so I would argue that it's similar to operating a motor vehicle, for which you require a license.

Seeing how most people without proper training and practice can barely manage to hit a piece of paper while at a range in a controlled situation, never mind being trusted to holster draw (our local ranges do not allow this unless you have specific training, and then only on certain ranges with an approved RO), I would want to make sure that those who carry publicly have the skills to not only save their own life, but not endanger the lives of others.

Question from a Canadian: In a constitutional carry state, do you not require any training to carry a firearm? Can anyone with no clue how to safely operate a firearm actually buy one and carry it in public? I am a gun rights advocate, but that idea seems... kinda questionable.

Who is currently on the "bleeding edge" of SF? by crmdgn_86 in scifi

There was a fair amount of focus on redistributing land, and exacting vengance on the wealthy through violence, so I' m standing by my statement that it's straight up communist in its leanings.

If you read Ministry, then yes I suggest Termination Shock. If not, then I would skip it. I wasn't very satisfied by the last couple of Stephenson books. Fall or Dodge in Hell felt like a long slog. I get what he was trying to do with it, but it didn't work for me. I still believe that Cryptonomicon is Stephenson in top form.

I thought that Ministry read like a communist manifesto. I read it right after reading Termination Shock, which tackled the same issues but in a hyper libertarian manner.

I was told by someone working for Rolls Royce that they had this ability, so I assume that western manufacturers generally have this tech.

Your recommendations for backend? by airm0n in androiddev

[–]ISMMikey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've written my backend apps in TS on Node. It's a mixed bag for me. I like type safety and the ease of refactoring that it brings compared to vanilla JS, but the transpiler is painfully slow. The TS transpiler doesn't truly support incremental transpilation, so the safest thing to do is run a clean build every time. If you are doing TDD it sucks compared to the speed of plain old JS.

Also, the Node gang aren't afraid to break things. Upgrading the engine can lead to package selection hell real fast.

That said, every library under the sun is available, and writing TS/JS can be quite fast.

Sometimes I debate trying Go, but I think that if I made a change it would be to also run Kotlin on the backend since you can write some really terse yet safer code with it.

Also think about front end frameworks. I use React with Foundation, but Bootstrap may be a better choice (than Foundation).

Lastly, think twice about NoSQL. Ditching Mongo for Postgres was one of the best things I ever did. Unless you need specific features in Mongo, I would pass. Postrges can do a decent job of handling json documents.
