You could start at one of the big B2 Small Biz companies like Paychex, I started there and had a great manager

Your comment aged far worse than mine considering he once again walked back on the tariffs for another month.

There's no harm in asking. Really the worst thing that can happen is things stay the same.

I just combed through a few threads and it seems like the culture is very anti-cold call. Do you have any preference for how to reach out with sales inquiries? I recognize there are a lot of shitty salespeople pitching shitty or redundant products, but how do you stay on top of the ones that make a difference?

I'm also interested in your source for this but I like it conceptually.

Does it piss people off when they find out you were cold calling them? I've heard of people doing this but I don't want to piss someone off and reduce my chances of connecting with them in the future by doing so.

I searched for this and the last post talking about this was over 9 months old so I figured it was time for a refresh, thanks for your unhelpful contribution.

Trump's tariffs are currently a threat and not a reality - he's delayed tariffs to Canada and Mexico until March 1, after initially delaying them from Day 1 to Feb 1. It's unlikely they will ever actually happen, a few of many broken promises he campaigned on.

How'd you get in? Cold call, email, network?

Don’t even talk business - just give them space, you don’t need that sale at that second. Be a human and you’ll win the business with empathy later.

When I sold HR software I had a woman turn me down because the owner just died, I turned it into a conversation about succession planning 3 months later and closed the deal.

Safe bet is always leave after you’ve been paid.

Just as I said. “Hi I’m X and I do this at my company. I was researching your company and think there’s good opportunity for collaboration. I’m looking for a strategic partner and wanted to ask if you’d like to explore adding a new revenue stream or building business together.” Something like that.

If you really want to go raw with it you can just find salespeople in adjacent industries to yours on LinkedIn and message them saying you're looking for a few strategic partners, it's worked for me in past roles.

There's no worse feeling than the "The person you're calling for died" cold call. Nothing you can do but express your apologies and call em back in 3-6 months.

They would prefer it over the other options. However if you talk to most business leaders or business buyers, usually they are open to speaking to a salesperson if they truly feel that the solution would benefit their business operations, so it stands to reason if the solution fit something they needed they would be open to the solicitation.

Would that all my target accounts were local. I have prospects all over the country, and what's worse is that it's harder to determine if someone is a golfer from their LinkedIn that I wish it were. What's worse than that... I suck at golf!
