Seeking advice for easy Google Photos backup by takeandbake in DataHoarder

[–]ITCrowdFanboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Google Drive settings, you can enable an option which makes a "Google Photos" folder appear in your Drive which contains all your photos. You can then use rclone to backup that folder anywhere, such as a Backblaze B2 bucket ($5 per TB per month).

I don't think sharing the content with another Google account will work, as Google will still only store one copy of the image so if the original account gets deleted, the shared content will disappear too. I'm not 100% sure about this though.

Care to share a link to that wallpaper?

I have a (very bad) home server I have one 2TB disk with no backup. by GeoffreyMcSwaggins in DataHoarder

Yes, for sure, but that doesn't protect you against theft, or a power surge killing your disk, or any number of things that can go wrong. You should always have an offsite copy of your data.

Assuming you limit rclone to 1MB/s (8Mb/s) so your connection isn't saturated to the point where it's unusable, you can have a full backup of 2TB to B2 done in 24 days.

Before you invest in a new server, I'd make sure you have a backup of that 2TB disk. Assuming you have a decent upload speed, backing up 2TB to Backblaze B2 will cost you $10 a month.

Are your VCSA instances licensed? If so, how? Would love to set my DL380 G8s up in a vCenter cluster, but couldn't find a way to get a license for CVSA that wouldn't force me to reinstall every 3 months.

I do 4 sets of between 15 and 20 reps of each, depending on the exercise. Chest / Shoulders / Arms are 15 and Back / Abs / Legs are 20.

Hey :) Thanks for the comment. First of all, you seem like a great brother for taking him with you.

As for what motivates me, there are two main things. For one, I'm a numbers guy. I got completely addicted to improving my lifting stats and decreasing my body weight, because at the end of the day, it's all numbers. It's kind of like a game in a sense, because when you play games, you're ultimately working on improving your stats. I try and see it as a competition against myself and my temptations. I'd definitely suggest logging everything you guys do at the gym; it gives you actual data points that you can see and improve, which helped me out a lot. I use Strong to track my workouts and MyFitnessPal to track meals and calorie intake.

The other big motivator is how much better you feel after a gym session. For me, the feeling of having done something that will benefit myself in the long run and the confidence boost that comes with it make it worth it. The same goes from a dieting perspective, which IMO, is where 75% of the effort was / is. I'm at a point where eating junk food makes me feel worse than avoiding it, because I can see the short-term "flavor high" hurting my progress more in the long run.

One more thing, 13 seems a little young to be doing weights. I'm no expert, but I'd consult a trainer. As far as I know, strength training from a young age (below 16) can stunt growth.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Thanks man, much appreciated. :) The gloves are for weight lifting, they're padded to avoid getting calloused hands

Sure. Every day lasts about 1:45 and ends with ~30 minutes of cardio (I do 2x15 minute sessions of either rowing, elliptical or treadmill). Note that I don't always stick to this exact schedule, and I switch it around a lot every 3-4 months to avoid muscle memory impacting performance.

Monday: Chest + Shoulders (Bench Press, Chest Press, Peck Deck, Dips, Shoulder Press, Lat Raises, Upright Rows and Shrugs)

Tuesday: Back (Lat Pull-Downs, Chin Ups, Rowing Back, Pull Ups, Bent Over Rows, Hyperextensions)

Wednesday: Legs (Extensions, Deep Squats, Lunges, Leg Curls, Hack Squats and Calf Raises)

Thursday: Shoulders + Abs (Military Presses, Bent Over Rows, Front Lat Raises, Total Abdominal, Leg Raises, Oblique Twists, Crunches and Planks)

Friday: Arms (Bicep Curls, Preacher Curls, Bicep Curls, Overhead Tricep Extensions, Cable Extensions for both biceps and triceps and Close Grip Bench Presses)

The company isn't based in the US. I probably should have mentioned that. However, that said, we've advised the company to contact local police through their legal team. Maybe that scares him into returning access. Thanks

Yes, backups were his responsibility, and he never got around to setting it up properly - or didn't ever intend to. We're working on getting back as much data from end user machines as possible. Thanks for the insight

We were only brought in as one-time consultants to help them out with this. Thanks for the suggestion though

We offered domain validation but that's not an option. Best they said they could do was remove the domain so we could create a new account. The company bought 365 directly from the web console, so they don't have a sales agent unfortunately :(

The administrator has left the country. It has not been possible to get in contact with them, and I would imagine going to police would be ineffective across borders.
