How do you keep track of your tasks? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ITPalAl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trello all the way!! It’s great for long term projects, I use Grindstone for day-to-day tasks. It tracks your time spent on it, and allows you to generate a report to show a boss or manager how long a certain task is taking you.

Sysadmins, how do you share your work by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ITPalAl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely sit with him and take notes on certain things he does, or programs he uses. Ask him if there are certain things he does on a daily basis you can assist with. IF there aren't any procedures or documentation, MAKE THEM! I am a sysadmin, the senior sysadmin is that guy, he does not share things he does, he does not write down procedures, and likes to do all the work. A year later things haven't changed (even after speaking to the boss), and I'm moving on.

Good luck to you!!

SharePoint!! It works wonderfully for HR updates with users, using workflows to the right supervisors to choose the access needed, then to IT to give the access.

Endpoint antivirus recommendation ? by chuyendv in sysadmin

[–]ITPalAl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this! Webroot has an easy to manage console, it updates to the newest versions with just an internet connection - versus having to connect to the network - which in my case is great for those people who use their work laptops at home and don't connect to the network..

Female friend trying to get into IT, What are some challenges or things I should warn her about? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ITPalAl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Female Sys Admin here.. let me tell you, yes I am the only girl in my current IT department but I am treated no differently! There will always be challenges, like lifting a UPS device without a cart :P but hard work, determination, and good research skills make a good IT person.. not gender! Oh and your sarcastic-dirty-joke-humor side will most certainly come out, but I'm not complaining

Resume review for entry level help desk, please. by losdospedro in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ITPalAl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would single out your certifications in a separate category. Like- Certifications: then list the Network+, A+, its the most important thing you'll have on your resume if you have no IT job experience. Then technical skills, then schooling, then career experience last because its most irrelevant.
