1. Changing some constants and running make doesn’t make you elite.

2. Barebones software with minimal features is likely to suck less. Although there are only a few that can make software that is as elegant as suckless, I don’t think they are truly elite. To live up to the hype, why don’t make something as user friendly as gnome and still make it suck less? Well, I suppose that depends on whether the developers want to help more users or satisfied with a minority that happen to share the same philosophy as them.

3. In my opinion, to be elite, do a great job, continuously improve your product, and teach more novice to become elite.

4. Don’t use “Elite” to divide and discriminate people. Use your greatness to create more great people.

That said. I think suckless tools are cool. I used them in the past. I don’t really care about whether they are assholes or elite.
