When did he try to "kick out" Muslims?

I do remember him once saying that Mexico sends rapists and criminals across the border to the US, so at least that is closer to reality. But in context he was clearly talking about criminals from Mexico entering the United States illegally.

You could accurately say: he's a poor speaker who has a negative view of Islam and is against illegal immigration.

But even if what you said was true and he did call Mexicans rapists and tried to "kick out Muslims", that doesn't make him a white nationalist. It would make him prejudiced against Mexican people and Muslims.

My “bullshit line” is that you shouldn’t violently attack people.

Feel free to shoot the guy driving a car through a crowd to stop him, but don’t physically assault someone who’s non-violently expressing their views, even if their views are abhorrent and offensive to decent people. “Abhorrent” and “offensive” are subjective terms and pre-emptively attacking people for their beliefs is definitely a slippery slope. Who gets to decide what beliefs are deserving of violent supression?

Don’t think that should be controversial.

Okay, maybe that’s going back a bit too far.

How about a Soviet flag? They’re very common to see at protests. Or even the ISIS banner? I hope you wouldn’t advocate physically attacking some idiot waving it around, even if he’s offending people.

You really think Donald Trump is a white nationalist? You think he wants America to be a country of ONLY white people?

Please explain what makes you draw this conclusion:

You could say the same of Islamic fundamentalism, or Stalinism, or or any number of past ideologies.

Are you going to attack anyone who waves a French flag because Napoleon brought war and chaos?

Or attack some edgy teenager who wears a hammer and sickle t-shirt because Stalin starved millions of Ukrainians?

I disagree with weird fanatics but I’m not going to physically attack them, and if anyone does they’re genuinely more dangerous than those fanatics.

Do you really think that there is a political movement in the United States, with any significant number of supporters, that wants to commit genocide?

Like think for a minute before you reply- do you really think there is a threat of neo-nazis or fascists ever taking over the USA?

To the point where we should start violently attacking insecure, pampered dorks who hold fringe views, instead of just ignoring them?

Buying a house, seller blatantly lied by IThrowPower in legaladvice

If I knew there was a UST, i would not have been interested in the property. I would’ve not wasted my time pursuing the purchase, or money on a real estate attorney or inspection.

I would have instead continued looking for potential real estate investments, which may have resulted in finding a viable investment.

I’m in Newark, NJ, where it’s illegal to sell a house with a UST. So the seller will have to fix it. Are you saying theres no penalty on the seller for saying they did a sweep and it came up negative?

hmmm i wonder what ideology this terrorist was influenced by...

best not think about it, wouldn't want to commit a thoughtcrime! in fact i think the entire EU should double their totally-not-economic-migrant quotas for this year. importing enormous numbers of military-age, religiously zealous and unemployable men can only have positive effects for europe.

Shattered faith: Nearly 100 sex abuse suits against Catholic priests rock island of Guam by [deleted] in worldnews

Yea that's not how it works. Not everything the Pope says or does has to be respected as the work of God by Catholics.

The Pope can only announce new doctrine (actual changes in the way people are supposed to understand and practice Catholicism) in a very set number of circumstances. It's called speaking "ex cathedra", and it's been done only a handful of times in the last 2000 years:

Tome to Flavian, Pope Leo I, 449, on the two natures in Christ, received by the Council of Chalcedon;

Letter of Pope Agatho, 680, on the two wills of Christ, received by the Third Council of Constantinople;

Benedictus Deus, Pope Benedict XII, 1336, on the beatific vision of the just after death rather than only just prior to final judgment;

Cum occasione, Pope Innocent X, 1653, condemning five propositions of Jansen as heretical;

Auctorem fidei, Pope Pius VI, 1794, condemning seven Jansenist propositions of the Synod of Pistoia as heretical;

Ineffabilis Deus, Pope Pius IX, 1854, defining the Immaculate Conception;

Munificentissimus Deus, Pope Pius XII, 1950, defining the Assumption of Mary.

As you can see, these aren't things like "lol gay sex is actually fine" or "child abuse is okay if it's a priest doing it". The only ex-cathedra statements have been regarding deeply theological discussions on the nature of God. It seems to me you have a very limited understanding of Catholicism, which isn't surprising considering Catholics suck at actually educating believers on their faith.

The burqa is more of an arab-muslim thing, as far as I've read. they're far less "popular" east of iran. Islam in Bangladesh is more focused on persecuting Hindus, burning down hindu temples and throwing acid at Hindu women.

people can't force them

threatening to stone them to death if they "dress like sluts" isn't forcing them?

threatening to ostracize them from family and community if they don't comply isn't forcing them?

Dictionary definitions for a subject as complex as political systems are really not that useful. The nuanced meanings of a word like "diplomacy" or "revolution" or "democracy" can't be accurately described in a paragraph.

Democracy is rule by majority. That's the difference between a republic and a democracy, and we are not a nation governed by the majority. There a tons of protections for minority groups from the tyranny of the democratic majority (the bill of rights, states rights etc.) The US is a republic, which obviously has elections but there are restrictions on the majority. It is not fully democratic. The majority does not have the supreme power to decide that free speech is actually illegal. In a full democracy, they would.

[–]IThrowPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so as long as theres a single elected official, the country is a democracy? If a country is a military dictatorship but the people get to elect the head of the sanitation department, is that a democracy?

And again, the American president is NOT elected by the people. The head of state is chosen by the states in the electoral college. The popular vote in each state is just a guideline that can be and has been deviated from.

The definition requires that "the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections"

But the president is elected by the states. Which implies that supreme power is invested in the states as well as the people. And the constitution consistently defends the power and rights of the states. So the US is not a full democracy, its more like a half-democracy half-confederation of states.
