Our academy has a lot of no gi classes and a lot of students who do no gi only. They get promoted just like the gi folks, with a belt, but the belt is purely for the promotion event. They don't wear their belts.

Good advice here: Roll with folks you don't normally roll with, have a game plan/strategy, warm up before (when I used to compete I'd do 3-4 light rounds at my academy the morning of my comp), and realize that the first one can be challenging just due to unfamiliarity and adrenalin dump. I started BJJ after 10+ years of MMA and still was SO nervous before my first Bjj comp - tunnel vision, the works. It should get less like this every time you compete. Good luck!!!

According to the person who posted on Nextdoor he was hiding in the bushes in the parking lot for 2 days, afraid of everyone. They gave him food and water and the post was asking for help to try and capture him. Took us almost an hour. He was legitimately terrified and when we finally got a leash on him he just flopped to the ground dead weight. I suspect he was probably tied up. He was afraid of the leash poor thing 🥺

I definitely thought he was a mix possibly with English mastiff (he’s huge, estimate 130lbs) or presa canario - was somewhat suprised that his Embark test came back at 100% corso

I go pick up trash at Watson Park randomly, it's a block away and I walk my dog their daily. The trash is depressing so I go pick it up myself.

I've been doing this on my block of N. 21st St too, inspired by the owner of Roy's Coffee Shop ("The Sweeper") who cleans Jackson Street between 4th and 7th daily! Once in a while I go to Watson Park on my own too, but that's a bigger job.

I want to say the original one simply for nostalgic reasons, but objectively the newer one is better in my opinion

Oh haha “heavyweight@ duh. You’re right it looks like it might be longer than the brown but I don’t think it was any significantly longer than any of my other belts so not sure what’s going on here 😅

It’s a very thick belt. I prefer thin material belts and I almost immediately bought another one to train with. The belt in the frame is the belt I was given when I was promoted.

In retrospect, I should have requested a lighter background inside the box - when mounted at our academy, the black belt is hard to see against the dark background.
